Warner Brothers have finally come forward with a Blu-ray release date for The Exorcist. September 8 2009 is the day you’ll be shelling out for the single disc, and the cut being used is definitely ‘just’ The Version You’ve Never Seen (as previously reported).
While Warner Brothers didn’t confirm anything further (they haven’t released cover art yet, either — though I think it is safe to assume it’ll be the poster/Merrin shot) The Exorcist Fansite already got the scoop on one of the special features that will appear on the disc in this previous post. It involved director William Friedkin and author William Peter Blatty walking through Georgetown and discussing elements of the story at key locations from the book and film.
For now, Amazon have listed the Blu-ray on their website without cover art, and you can pre-order it directly from them. I suggest you do, too — if previously released DVD sales are anything to go by, the first run of prints will sell out quickly and there will be a short wait for the second runs.
As soon as — or whenever — Warner Brothers get around to releasing some further details or cover art, you’ll see it here.
