“Ruckus” is an over-looked film that she did. It came out before “First Blood” and deals with the same issues, and some say it's a better film.
“Summer of Fear” is good, too. And I enjoyed “Silent Assassins”, though she does not have a huge part in it.
“Roller Booggie” shows her in all her nubile glory!
Ruckus was definitely a comedy pre-cursor for First Blood.
It also starred Dirk Benedict (Starbuck from the original Battlestar Galactica).
Linda Blair looked GOOD in this movie. 🙂

ParticipantAye, and what a risky roof/patio deck to have. 🙂

ParticipantIt was kind of the same thing for The Exorcist.  When Regan hurls bile all over Fr. Karras. They told him that he was just barely gonna get hit…maybe low in the chest…and then they splattered him with it full on in the face. It completely disgusted and angered him…the reaction you saw on the screen was a genuine reaction…and they kept it.
Talk about being a good sport. 🙂

ParticipantYeah, this was cute. 🙂

Participant1. The Exorcist (obviously…none has been its equal…nor do I believe any will be).
2. ALIEN
3. Carrie
4. Exorcist III (Agreed, it is more like a crime drama, but it was good seeing George C. Scott in the role originally intended for him, and the return of Jason Miller. And Brad Dourif did a great job as the Gemini Killer's spirit.)
5. The Omen (both versions)

ParticipantNice!!!! :)  I like your office.

It was funny, too, when Veronica Cartright talked about the infamous chestburster scene in ALIEN. She said that the producers told her everyone would get splashed just a little bit in the scene for added realism….and then the next thing you know, when the chestburster breaks through, she literally gets DOUSED in blood. The reaction you see from her is genuine…as is everyone else's reaction….not only to her, but to the fact of the chestburster itself.
Reactions all throughout the movie are genuine, because the actors were kept in the dark about the nature and appearance of the alien….and that is a tough feat.

ParticipantThanks, Sofia. 🙂

ParticipantAgreed, Father.

Although Alien did not scare me, it was a well made film, (holding up quite well against all the CGI rage these days) and remains one of my faves to this day. One of the things I loved about the movie was the casual dialogue between the crewmembers during their little sit downs at the dinner table. So naturalistic and casual, you'd think they were actually conversing and bullshitting, and not just citing dialogue. It was that way through much of the film. I hate it when dialogue sounds forced.  The more I believe that these are real people, and not just characters, the more I enjoy the movie.
That's why I loved The Exorcist as well. 🙂

ParticipantI got the standard version of Alien Anthology on blu-ray, and wow….the extra special features were well worth justifying getting it, even though I already had Alien Quadrilogy on DVD.
The first two films are landmarks. Alien 3 had to grow on me, but I do enjoy it.  Alien Resurrection….well…I was disappointed severely with that film (as were, obviously, a lot of ALIEN fans). However, it does have a few redeeming qualities.
And if you look at Alien Resurrection, you can kinda see it as a blue-print for a show called “Firefly”. (Not surprising, since the story for Alien Resurrection is penned by Firefly creator Joss Whedon.)  Especially in terms of the crew of the Betty.  Johner, (Ron Perlman) is easily a pre-vis of Jayne (Adam Baldwin) in Firefly.  Call (Winona Ryder) is a mix of what would be the characters of Kaylee (the oh so yummy Jewel Staite) and River (the also oh so yummy Summer Glau). Captain Elgyn (Michael Wincott) is sort of a blueprint for Captain Malcolm Reynolds (Nathan Fillion).
I have yet to fully explore the special features in the anthology, but I am anxious to do so. 🙂

The only Alien movie I never got to see on the big screen was the original….and I never did get to catch it's “director's cut” rerelease on Halloween a few years ago.

ParticipantEven the therapy room in Heretic was sort of “sci-fi-ish” with the automatic sliding glass doors, moving aside as if one were in a starship. (I know, supermarket doors do that too, but the way it was presented in Heretic was stylized.) 🙂

ParticipantLOL!  Weird Al as an exorcist.  Yikes!
I'm glad I didn't pay to see Exorcist: The Beginning in theaters. I was happy to be able to get it as part of the Exorcist Anthology that came out on DVD, since I am sort of a completist. I'll have to revisit that movie, and A/B it with Dominion.ÂÂ

ParticipantThanks, Fr. Bowdern. 🙂
I think the only reason the prequels were disasterous was because of creative differences. Morgan Creek wanted to create a movie that would cater to a less attentive crowd…more blood and guts, and gore.  They didn't like Paul Schraeder's more cerebral take on the film, canned him, brought in Renny Harlin, and created the movie I described above.
I personally enjoyed Dominion: Prequel to the Exorcist. It was fairly chilling, although obviously incomplete in post-production. You can definitely tell in the visual effects. The movie's story was completed, but the post production went to hell in a handbasket. At that point, you can see where Schraeder's hands were tied.
I thought Stellan Skarsgaard did a good job in portraying Fr. Merrin. And it was an interesting take on the demon that possessed the crippled boy. 🙂

ParticipantI just watched the trailer for this. It looks interesting. I try not to associate it with The Exorcist in any way, but that'll depend when I actually see the movie. Hopefully Anthony Hopkins' presence in this film will bring it much credit.
In the trailer I watched (trailer 2, I believe) they used some music from Bram Stoker's Dracula (when Dracula renounces God after finding Elisabeta dead in his castle), which also happened to have Anthony Hopkins in it.

ParticipantToo cool! 🙂
