Watched it two nights ago. Wonderful job, Spicediver! I actually prefer this over the “original.”

Those have to be fake – one of the pictures is from Scary Movie 2. Tongue out

The Omen remake wasn't completely awful, but it was totally pointless in the same way as the 1998 version of Psycho. Remakes are stupid ideas at the best of times, but if you're just going to do a scene-by-scene copy… what's the point?

The actual painting was auctioned off not long ago. I have a very large HQ scan of it I can post if anyone's interested.

I can't remember where I read it, but apparently it is Friedkin in the car. It looks like him if you pause the Blu-ray, too.

I've looked around but couldn't find anything. All I remember is it wasn't a free front.

mego, thanks for letting me know about this one. It's a VF and that means a lot for 1974 mag of this type. I just purchased it and will provide some scans from the magazine once I get it and have time to do the scanning.

Cap, if I watermark these do you want to put them on the home page?

FB, Mike (ManInKhakiExorcist) recently sent me about 40 Exorcist-related magazines, including this one, which have been scanned and saved in PDF format for the site. Just gotta give Cap the time to finish updating the other sections, and all the articles will go up!

I don't have any problems with the added scenes and actually prefer to have them in the film (although I wouldn't miss the spiderwalk and I think the first medical scene could have had tighter editing).

It's the other 2 things you mentioned that ruin TVYNS for me, along with the desaturated look and purple/blue tint over the film.

The added sound effects and music – especially during the crucifix scene – are awful, distracting, and completely unrealistic. When the crucifix goes between Regan's legs it sounds like the cliche effect in b-grade slasher movies, you know, when the killer pulls out the knife. It's things like that, that take me out of the film.

The added 'subliminals' are just too much, and too silly. I'm glad they removed the 2 Pazuzu flashes in Regan's room on the Blu-ray, although they never bothered to remove the sound effect from it!

I believe if Friedkin had not thought of McCambridge, The Exorcist
would have been a disaster on a comedic level regardless of the child
    actor chosen
    .

Right on. No one could have pulled it off using their own voice unless McCambridge herself played Regan, so I don't really get the criticism towards Linda's acting.

Mute the film and you still have a wonderful performance from a rather inexperienced little girl. Any other child actor could have made the demonic scenes laughable by going completely over the top or underplaying the whole thing, but Linda got it perfect. As Hammer mentioned, the crucifix scene is one of the best examples of that.
