Witch of Endor
ParticipantIs this a frame from the film?
Witch of Endor
ParticipantRegan, I’m yet to see a shred of scientific evidence that the phenomena is real. As with most of this stuff, its all heresay from fantasy prone people. No scientific data to support anything supernatural and without a supernatural element it become a psych case rather than a case for theological concern.
As for Hell, many different religious have answers, but no proof as to what hell is, who goes there and why. I believe that some so-called theologians like Fred Phelps would go so far as to say all humans are condemned to hell. Makes one wonder why bother go to church. At the opposite end of the spectrum is the more positive view that hell does not exist and everyone goes to heaven. I think the second view is more productive, although equally unproven.
Witch of Endor
ParticipantYour right Regan. Its a possibility that this priest was schizophrenic.
Witch of Endor
ParticipantMan that is a great find! Once again, its what the “devil” said from a theological perspective that is most interesting. The idea that he cannot know confessed sins for instance. Its all very interesting ideas, but unfortunately theological ideas are in no way proof that the possession was genuine.
I did find it interesting that priest noted that the woman was vomiting great quantities despite not having eaten. It said she could not take in solid food and was being fed intravenously. This is very reminiscent of Regan in the movie that was on some kind of feeding-tube without any explaination given. I find it odd too that Regan vomited such large quantities to begin with, but even stranger if she was fed intravenously. Where did the vomitus come from? Was it ectoplasm? Why was no effort made to analyse its content?
Witch of Endor
ParticipantRules of thumb, keep it out of the light, wrap it in plastic to keep out the air, and keep it cool. If your really serious, refrigerate but not below zero.
Witch of Endor
ParticipantBowdern, please post screen shot. Thanks.
Witch of Endor
ParticipantWell it was obviously typed up by someone eventually. Afterall its on the web in text format (could had been OCR transcribed) but the question is by whom and why.
Witch of Endor
ParticipantYes Browdern, I was aware that Blatty had read the diary previously. Apearently the priests were so appalled by the result that they “burned” the diary to prevent others from doing the same.
I guess the priests are human and make mistakes. I was under the impression that the diary was an unedited manuscript so that is probably why the oversight survived.
Witch of Endor
Participantjaj6786, when you say “treatment” I’m guessing you mean the exorcism journal, not his private medical records.
fatherbowdern, interesting observation. Could it be because in this case Ronald’s name is being in the context of an exact quote from the Devil (notice quotation marks) as opposed to how the priests refer to him?
Witch of Endor
ParticipantI certainly agree that shitting in one’s pants or even projectile vomiting are no proof demonic possession. Still its uncomfortable and socially unacceptable. Most normal ppl would not do it unless they were tied to a bed and not allowed to use the bathroom for instance. This also shreds some more light on why Ronald has not come forward to the press. How would you like it if at age 80 ppl were still asking you on a regular basis if it was true you shit your pants at 13?
Witch of Endor
ParticipantSo its not a movie still. Begs the question then, who made this and why.
Witch of Endor
ParticipantNone of it makes any real sense: I can buy the prank theory, but some of the other stuff worries me. The scratching of the body, regardless of its intent could well be a sign of emotional disturbance. Also how many 13yo boys would take a prank to the point of shitting in his underwear. Was he denied bathroom privileges by the priests? If so then what were they expecting? Finally, they let a possessed boy cut the grass with a lawn mower with great big blades on it? Huh?
Witch of Endor
ParticipantDef see the face. Is this a still from the dvd?
Witch of Endor
ParticipantThis is very strange language: “Fagged out”, “Shitting in his underwear”. This is supposed to be an official document of the Catholic church. Can you imagine if a physician wrote this?
Witch of Endor
ParticipantHi Ratboy. Although I’m not sure I appreciate your analysis of the younger generation (I’d like to consider myself to young) I think your characterization of remake is spot on. The Dennings death scene WILL DEFINITELY be in the remake I can say this at least. The idea of making Merrin struggle with pedophilia is also interesting was there any hint of this in the book at all?
