KeymasterOf all the things that happen in The Exorcist, and of things I thoroughly enjoy, my favorite scene remains the conversation in the kitchen between Chris and Lt. Kinderman. The way the camera slowly closes in on them both while Kinderman is pressing, and the way it pulls aback when he finally lets up… it’s a wonderfully natural moment perfectly performed and perfectly directed.

KeymasterWitch, unfortunately no, there is no search function for this forum software I use. The new forum will provide this option.

KeymasterFather, the photo above has me thinking of the poor art department who would have been busy filling each shot, not thinking of this kind of stuff (the soaps, etc..)

KeymasterI agree, timestamping a timeless film would send the audience down the wrong path. ‘Present Day’ would be OK, but usually you only put such things on the screen when you’ve spent time in the past… that never happens in The Exorcist.

KeymasterFather, I thought this was common knowledge? Friedkin touches on it in his atrocious DVD commentary and it is well suggested (though not blatant) in the book. Hmm. I really should do a write-up as part of the new site.

Keymasterfatherbowdern, The Exorcist only won 2 Oscars out of its 10 nominations in 1974. They were for:
Best Sound: Robert Knudson & Christopher Newman, and Best Writing, Screenplay Based on Material from Another Medium: William Peter Blatty

KeymasterIt’s director William Friedkin talking with Linda Blair between takes.
