Screening in February: Schrader’s Exorcism documentary with filmmaker Q&A

It will go down as one of the most famous Hollywood studio debacles in film history: Director Paul Schrader being fired from Exorcist: The Beginning after principal photography was complete, only to have the studio hire a new director (Renny Harlin) then proceed to fund a further 40 million dollars to have the film ‘fixed’. The resulting film was not very well received and Paul Schrader would eventually get a limited release of his original film (now titled Dominion: Prequel to The Exorcist) once the ‘fixed flop’ had occurred.

Hollywood editor Tim Silano has completed his documentary on this unique topic. Titled Schrader’s Exorcism, the documentary features interviews with principal cast and crew who were involved in the studio debacle when it happened. I have posted the trailer below, please remember to pick up a copy for your DVD collection via this link!

Schrader’s Exorcism will be screening publicly on February 3rd at the 79 MN Theater, San Francisco at 6pm (promotion poster below). On hand after the screening will be Director Tim Silano, Co-Producer Bruce Stambler, and our very own Michael Garratt (M.I.K.E.), author of the forthcoming book on the same topic, titled Evil Against Evil (view website here). It’s set to be a very interesting night stuffed with plenty of insight for curious fans of the Exorcist prequels that took such a strange turn and made film history.

Look for a review of Schrader’s Exorcism here soon, and hopefully some footage from the Q&A if it can be made available.
