ParticipantReally? I've seen quite a few on ebay and never took much notice 'cause I thought they were common!

ParticipantThere's another one you can get with the face of Regan/Howdy on it after the headspin. I think there's two versions… one has the Legion screenplay too.

ParticipantI wouldn't trust anything Friedkin says. He's a genius but also a total headcase (you'll love going through all the articles Mike sent me to scan – hopefully they'll be up on the site soon. So many wonderfully nutty Friedkin quotes).
In an issue of Rue Morgue he claims the bloody shot was from his “personal collection” and that he “saw it in the first showing of the film.” Not entirely sure what he means by that, but it sounds like BS.
As for it not appearing in FOG, I think that would be due to the alternate version & Burstyn reaction shots being on the end of completely different reel to the other spiderwalk footage which everyone had forgotten about (according to Blatty, anyway). Kermode had access to everything, but went by the documents WB sent them which only roughly listed what footage is where.

ParticipantIs that the one with the 'help me' picture on the front? I had to return mine because the pages kept falling out!

ParticipantI haven't read the novel for a while so my memory is a little iffy… but yeah, I think you're right, he came to the conclusion that it was Karras who had snapped because of the guilt over his mother.
As for why Karras jumped, it's not as clear in the novel because we don't see what happens in Regan's room, it's only heard from Chris' perspective. But basically it was a sign of his returning faith and a sacrifice to save Regan by taking the demon into himself and then jumping.
The novel is much more open to interpretation than the film, though.

ParticipantTVYNS was the closest I got to experience the excitement of the 1973 release.
I remember… Exorcist II: The Heretic was playing on TV and it was the first time I'd seen it. During one of the ad breaks, the trailer for TVYNS came on. I was so overjoyed, I didn't bother with the rest of The Heretic. I was only 11 at the time and so I couldn't get into the cinemas to see it. Instead, I sent my parents off to see it for me and report back with all the goss.
Watching TVYNS for the first time on video was great fun. Having seen the original so many times, this was full of surpirses. I didn't know how the spiderwalk would end, or that Regan would transform into the Captain Howdy demon during the hypnosis scene. I got some genuine frights out of TVYNS that I never got from the original.
But of course with time, the novelties have worn off. And with that said… good riddance to that stupid title, the silly Pazuzu subliminals, and the horrible washed-out purple tint which makes everyone in the film look like corpses!
“In forgetting, they were trying to remember.”

ParticipantI've had the book sitting on my desk for about 4 years and haven't gotten around to reading it.
Gotta finish Dimiter first, then I'll start on Legion.

ParticipantIt's all about the money… spend less, make more. *sigh*
I'm compiling a list of horror flicks to watch on Halloween, so I'll try and find all the sequels!
Justin
ParticipantI wouldn't worry too much, I think they ship orders depending on location. Some people claim their copy was sent out last Friday. Hopefully yours will ship today (it's the 5th there now, isn't it?).
Justin
ParticipantGreat stuff, thanks for sharing!
Sadly I don't have anything signed from the original. I do love my Dominion poster from Paul Schrader, though!
