Its interesting that the Catholic Church lists super-human strength as legitimate evidence of demonic possess when in the film in at least one occasion a physician tries to explain it away. This is the line where he makes the example of the woman with a baby trapped under a car.
In real life stress hormones such as epinephrine or cortisol can cause physiological changes in the body. This can include short duration extreme strength. The problem is that this strength cannot be maintained or the person will rapidly die of exhaustion. (Is this why Regan is sick?)
In any case I don’t see how stress hormone could account for a child (who isn’t a bodybuilder) could have extreme strength that lasted for more than a few minutes per week for instance.

If I recall the scene correctly Karras flings himself out the window, bounces and then rolls quickly along the ground before rolling down the stairs. Its quite dramatic!
I know of no biological explanation of how two different personalities within a single entity could have different allergies. On the other hand, stress hormone changes etc. can affect the immune system thus the severity of one’s allergic reactions. I will have to conclude that the stress hormones were what was involved here. Don’t forget that the most common cause of unexplained rashes is known to be stress!

1 & 2: We know Burke is an alcoholic. He might be a sex addict too. Addicts do not make these sort of cost/benefit analysis when they are in their disease.
3-5: Many times ppl are not aware when sexual molestation happens. Its a very private thing. Ppl will often turn a blind-eye to it either intentionally or unintentionally simply because its so socially proscribed no one wants to deal with it. Also Regan was very sick and in a desperate situation Sharon may not had done the responsible thing.
Whether or not BD molested Regan is certainly open to interpretation. Its one of the coolest new theories I have heard about the movie. I will agree though, the movie does not go out of its way to explore this possibility.
I think the producers just built a set for the inside and used a real house for the exterior shots with little concern about whether or not they fit.

No, I’m not kidding. I have never heard of a real life case of a medical disorder giving a child extreme strength. I know the example given in the movie of the mother lifting the car, but in real life this is not something that could be sustained for a long period of time.
