Yeah it does sound quite similar but it doesn’t sound like the exact music. It being a different company producing the film would unlikely pay the rights to use the same music so the composer was probably instructed to sound like the Exorcist without it being the exact same thing. The remake of the Omen however uses the exact same Muslim chant that is used in the beginning of the film. I don’t know if that music is copyrighted by Warner because it may actually be a real Muslim chant. I’m no expert though.

It could very well be something she totally made up. Children create imaginary friends all the time and give them names that have no significance to anything else. I don’t think there’s a definite answer to it but we are lead to believe that is a variation on Regan’s father’s name Howard(as stated above).

A very creepy film that relies on little no special effects. Roman Polanski directs this film quite brilliantly. It also touches on a subject that really hasn’t been done well and that’s what goes on behind closed doors of high society. The only other film I believe tapped the nerve closely was Eyes Wide Shut.

Not worth the purchase. Very bland and uninteresting in my opinion.

Agreed Captain. Usually “ultimate” boxsets are for movie trilogies or sagas that are usuall continually good. The first Exorcist film is the only film worth an ultimate edition. I would like to see the other features I stated in a previous post but I would sacrifice all of that for one balls out ultimate 2 or 3 disc set for the first one.

It would be really interesting to see a brand new cut of Exorcist III. I have always felt this was such a good flick and had potential to be a great flick. We have been denied anything remotely related to Exorcist III i.e deleted scenes, behind the scenes footage, hell even a friggin commentary. I also wouldn’t mind seeing a new cut of The Heretic. I might be one of those few people who believe there is a decent flick in there. Of course I would love a balls to the wall Alien Quadrilogy type Exorcist boxset with so much extras that I yell “STOP IT” at the tv. Lets start the petition!!!

Another possible idea I have been kicking around is using a few good snippets from The Exorcist II and show the movie as a flashback of Regan’s. It could possibly work if I could find the right footage. It would be more of a student project than a legitimate cut but I would be curious to see if I could do it.

I’ve learned throughout my editing experiences that silence can be the most powerful tool in crafting someone to be evil. My new edit would have Regan talking very little while she’s going through her initial possession stages except for the “Mother what’s wrong with me” line. I dunno it just seems creepier with silence. The “fucking bastard” line is almost kinda cute it retrospect like aww a cute little girl is trying to act tough. I just think it works better with the spit and doesn’t even give you enough time to think about it and just changes to the next scene. What does everyone think about the new ending music?

The problem really is that the audio track has been lost for the last 30 seconds or so. If you watch the 25th anniversary it shows the original ending with Kinderman’s dialogue being drown out by the traffic and things going in the background. I think Kinderman’s last line where he quotes Casablanca is extremely important as the exorcism has brought together two people who probably wouldn’t have met. The Muslim chant at the end really doesn’t provide any insight so I think it is a huge flaw on the editor’s part by re-inserting it onto the end for anything more than bookending the film.

There is a really creepy song on the soundtrack that is sung by a little girl. I can picture this playing instead of the Muslim chant then the original music kicks in during the title credits. In Blatty’s novel Regan sings this. It is from an unused score by Lalo Sschfrin for anyone who owns the soundtrack.

I modified the ending theme if you want to hear a sample go to the link below

I don’t think people would watch it for the story.

I am fortunate to own this version. It’s good from a collector’s pov but if you really want a good copy of the original get the 25th anniversary. This version wasn’t enhanced at all and looks very washed out and it desperate need of being remastered.

It’s fully re-mastered but it’s the same exact cut of the movie.
