I think it would be cool to take the African exorcism footage from II and splice it back into the first film when the two priests are deciding on who should do Regan’s exorcism. That’s pretty much the only thing I would keep from II. I still think there is some great footage that is locked up in the Warner vaults somewhere but we’ll never see it.

There were 3 versions filmed. The two that you mentioned and the last one involved Regan biting Sharon on the leg.

No he died after he had done all his work on the film. Including his voice work.

As far as I know there aren’t any stills. I believe this was discussed in an issue of Fangoria that came out a bunch of years back. I’d have to double check on that.

I can’t believe I never noticed this stuff. While I have always noticed when Eileen Dietz is playing Regan (pretty obvious) it never really took me out of anything. I am totally gonna be looking for this now. It’s all good though.

According to many documented reports of possession there have been instances where a strong sulfer or rotten egg smell has been present.

Besides anyone who was directly involved with the production or its re-release there’s Mark Kermode the film historian and Paul Davis who is a big fan and had his own fansite back in the day. If I remember correctly Paul was allowed access to the Warner vaults. I’m sure no one has a physical copy of the footage.

If we did my friend, I’m sure the El Captain would have it plastered all over the website. Sadly, only a select few people have scene it and none of them post on this board.

I just hope this will be a great transfer. I have been let down by some transfers for classic movies like Clockwork Orange & Rocky, but there have also been some beautiful transfers like The Shining, 2001 & Blade Runner.

Agreed but I’ve had a year to recover. The Exorcist still tops many lists and honestly the AFI rarely nails anything on the head so I don’t pay alot of attention to whatever list comes out from them.

It’s no secret that message boards are filled with males age 12 – 18. While that group can be brutally honest about their opinions they also must be able to prove how macho they are. I remember being afraid at that age and substituting my fears with a joke or something along those lines to ease my tension.

Some may consider that being afraid of a movie is some sort of weakness so they will try and trash it because it made them feel vulnerable and god forbid have a natural human instinct. Even now most people who admit to being scared by the movie will add some sort of quip such as “the movie scared me shitless” or “I nearly shit my pants when she spun her head around”.

My point is, this movie doesn’t have the “cool” mass murderer like Michael Myers, Jason, Freddy, Leatherface etc. What it does have is something that touches the very nerve that comes out and makes us feel truly vulnerable. Fear. I think more than anything these tweenies are lashing out at something that made them afraid. Just my two cents.

I’m on the fence about this. While I do think Mercedes McCambridge was absolutely perfect for the full on possessed voice. I think this voice may have been creepy in Reagan’s earlier phase of possession. I dunno it probably wouldn’t work but the voice in that trailer is kinda creepy to me.

    Hi Everyone,

Just wondering who has bought into the high def hype and gotten a bluray player. I personally think bluray looks good but am still skeptical on how older movies will look. New movies like Spiderman 3 obviously look great but I have yet to see a great transfer for a pre 90’s flick.

The sad thing is the winner is probably just a collector of entertainment memorabilia and not a hardcore fan like us. And yes the dealer got the major shaft on this. When all was said and done I was expecting this thing to go for a few hundred bucks.
