ParticipantThat's true. I saw it back in the late 70's on HBO and even they had an additional warning before they aired it. I guess HBO could care less about airing it again because TVYNS never hit their listings.

Sure, there are plenty of Barbie's to go around … just shows us the picture when you're done.Father Bowdern

ParticipantMoreover, there are many duplicate items for quick replacements during filming. For instance, the true number of ruby slippers for Judy Garland in the Wizard of Oz is unknown, however, four of the five found are in collections. I've seen two pairs of them (Smithsonian and Disney World) and they were exact and spot on although they are very disappointingly cheap looking in person.

ParticipantI agree. I really thought SPIKE would get away with much more considering their status on cable tv, but they attract too many powerful advertisers. Maybe they can reconfigure “fuck me” to “hunch me.”

ParticipantYes, kind of a bummer on that one. I was hoping that SPIKE would do a decent job with the censorship/editing although the televised versions on “regular” cable are fun to watch to see how they handle the film.

I think Regan's peesh is being assaulted versus her face. Just a thought.

Or POSSIBLY, When Regan was pleading with the Devil not to make her masturbate with the crucifix, he probably slashed her repedatly and FORCED her to masturbate by posessing her.
Or POSSIBLY, I like your version better!Â

ParticipantYes. That is one of the best lines written for that film. Too bad WB had to stick their noses in and ruin Blatty's intentions.

ParticipantI was glad to see they aired the original version. SPIKE blanked out certain words like “fuck” in the repeating “____ me” scene. Censorhip at its worst because you could read Regan's lips so easily that it was funny. Too bad they didn't insert, “Your mother rots in hell!” with Friedkin's old voiceover from the original TV-14 version.

Participantepic,
You are referring to the Barringer Clinic scene where Regan is strapped to a hospital bed for observation that parallels the Bellevue scene with Mrs. Karras. The initial deep scratches we see are from Regan's own fingernails prior to her restraint. I'm not so sure those initial scratches match the “exact†cuts on Regan's face inflicted by Pazuzu with the crucifix.Father Bowdern

ParticipantWouldn't the artwork be a one-of-a-kind original? I can remember the artwork throughout the home, but I don't believe they were reprints of masterpieces or very common prints.

ParticipantMacLaine's daughter, Sachi Parker (birth name Stephanie Sachiko Parker) on the cover of the novel, The Exorcist (link):
Â

Sachi was born in 1956. This means Sachi was the appropriate age range for the 12-year-old character, Regan, which Blatty created prior to the 1971 publication date. The novel’s description and the book’s front cover match both Sachi and Blatty’s descriptors. Jus' sayin'.

Shirley may believe it's a photo of her daughter on the original cover of the Exorcist, but according to Mr. Blatty, it is not.
Regan, that's pretty much old news (no sarcasm intended). Blatty has always claimed the photo is not Sachi on the cover of his novel since its publication. MacLaine says, “He [WPB] used the picture of my daughter that he had taken on a set of Children's Hour for the cover the book of The Exorcist.” There are too many details in her quote versus Blatty's initial claim.
It's important to note that WPB based his characters on both Shirley and Sachi. Blatty and MacLaine lived in the same neighborhood and were friends. In the video link provided by Sofia, MacLaine speaks of several points of interest in her life that appear in the novel; i.e., the servants, the trip to Arlington, etc. MacLaine is not complaining that Blatty borrowed events from her life or even the photo of Sachi on the cover. She's merely acknowledging the truth. Besides, the photo of Sachi is so out of focus and poorly lit, it would be difficult to claim it is indeed a photo of Sachi.
There was never a lawsuit or any hard feelings on record about any of this as MacLaine and Blatty were friends. She and Sachi are merely “immortalized in the annals of evil.”
You can also read the article I posted on here and decide if Blatty or MacLaine is more accurate. The article is from my copy of the 1974 Tattler magazine that often published outlandishly creative-writing articles that mixes “lies with the truth.”

ParticipantI'm afraid you'd have to ask the costume designer, Joseph Fretwell II (aka Joe Fretwell) about the fabric/pattern specifics. However, Fretwell died in 1992. I'm sure the genuine nightgowns exist at WB or are in the hands of die-hard collectors. When referencing the blue color, watch the Blu-ray because it more acurately reflects the true color versus past VHS/DVD attempts where WB and Friedkin tinkered with the wrong tonal values.
