I think it was Justin that said he thought it was an alternate take. It ruined it for me too.

ParticipantGood point! He stuck to the book as much as possible. That’s why I thought it was cgi’d.
That scene makes no sense what so ever.

ParticipantNeca makes great figures. There 18″ figures are bad ass! I have a Captain Jack and a Hellboy. If the Regan sells enough, hopefully they will make one of her too. I want one in full Demon form though!
Just found out there is a “bloody variant of the Regan Spiderwalk figure….

ParticipantI have really always hated the blood in the spider-walk scene. I thought they just used CGI for that part of the shot but appearntly they shot two different shots for that. The original is much better and follows the book…

ParticipantNo. Chris distictly didn’t smell it but said she did so as to not upset Regan.
Later though when Karras is interviewing the demon, he get’s a distinct smell of sauerkraut….

ParticipantCarl said he was going to see a movie but went to see Elvira and Willie went to see a Beatles movie.
Reagan wasn’t that difficult to watch because she was heavily sedated.
The creepy part for me was in the movie and the book Kinderman sees someone (Regan) moving around the room when everyone thought she was too drugged to move.

ParticipantThanks guys. I am fairly certain the details of the 28′ exorcism are greatly exaggerated. There are a couple other cases I can’t recall off the top of my head. You can definately see where the 28’case influenced “The Exorcist” though.

ParticipantThis is one of the cases that inspired Blatty.

ParticipantI believe the diary was passed on to the Dr. at Gabriel Behavioral so he could comment on the Discovery Channel special.
Blatty requested the diary but was refused. The story I have heard (and it seems like a bit of a stretch) was that a construction worker that helped tear down the St Louis hospital where part of the alleged exorcism occurred, found it and gave it to Blatty.
I believe he says something to that effect in “The Making of the Exorcist” book. I am absolutely certain he read the diary before he wrote the book.
A lot of the legend type aspects turned out to be not mentioned in the actual diary. Such as the priest being slashed open with the bed spring. Most of the more supernatural claims were not witnessed by the priests. They were told to them by R’s family.
The other thing was the priests were not there to debunk R’s claim. They were there to heal him. The diary just reports what the events as they saw them.

ParticipantBob Larson is scum who has used this whole “exorcism” thing to get himself lots O dough……
In the real world, nobody would have made it past Karras. The only exorcisms that I have read about that might have were a very long time ago with no way to verify what did or didn’t happen…

ParticipantIt was 1949. Priests are fine with a little blue language apparently. I did notice a couple of 1’s where l’s should be though. It may be the difference in word programs. I don’t know…..
I also don’t really know how “official” it actually was.

ParticipantThis is from page 16 and 17. Pay attention to bullet point #5.
Thursday, April 7.
At Cottage City, R was normal all day. He worked in the afternoon, spaded a little and cut the lawn. But the evening spell lasted for five hours, from 9:15 PM to 2:15 AM.
1)Branding: R was awake. During the exorcism at the “Praecipio” at least 20 brands appeared on R’s body. Many occurred at name of Jesus as we recited the Hail Mary. The first mark was clearly a number “4”. Some other marks may have been the number “4” a1so, but were obscure. Mother marks: single stroke, double strokes, seemingly a pitch fork, several times four strokes or claw marks of various lengths on belly or 1egs.
One set of such claw marks from thigh to ankle tearing off a scab near the ankle.
When these marks occurred, the boy’s hands were kept away from his body
One branding occurred on his leg just as he started to lie down after the preceding mark had been observed. Most of the branding occurred under his clothing or at least under the sheet covering him.
2) Spitting, violence. Shitting in his underwear.
3) Singing: humming the “Ave Maria.”
4) Filthy talk.
5) Writing on his own body with fingernail the words “HELL” and “CHRIST” in large capital letters.
6) Through R the devil said he would keep the Priests until 6:00 AM. He made this statement at 2:00 AM when everyone was fagged out. He said he would prove his threat by having R awaken immediately. R awoke with a start, but the Fathers were relieved when sleep came fifteen minutes after 2:00. It seemed throughout the possession that whenever R was completely exhausted God permitted him to go off to sleep and commanded the devil to be quiet. -
