KeymasterI still can't decide if that's William Peter Blatty or not (in the blue shirt). Any thoughts?
This footage is remarkable to see. Like I said in my post, the extensive amount of engineering required to make these effects realistic is clearly evident and further goes to demonstrate that The Exorcist really was a ground-breaking horror film.

KeymasterVery excited to see this final product. Looks like it is coming along well! I wish I was this technically creative and talented. When do you hope to be finished, epicwin123?

KeymasterAmazing how instantly recognizable this is.

KeymasterJustin, Sofia, a production timeline is a fantastic idea!

KeymasterNice catch.

KeymasterThanks for this. I noticed that Google lists captainhowdy.com as 'compromised' and I've got a ticket lodged to have it restored. It's actually because of this message forum, which is a different software 'plugin' and not an official extension of the software I use for the website. It has some holes, apparently. Major work for me that is going to take some time.
Thanks again for keeping an eye out for me! Hopefully I can get it fixed soon.

KeymasterBD said the clips they will release in the coming days might show that it is WPB. I can see how it might not be him, though. It's hard to tell.
I think this footage was done closer to principal photography than we think. The set appears built and Linda's outfit is the one she wears in the film, these things usually aren't ready until late in pre-production.
I agree with you with the demon body slamming Regan, too. Some of that convulsion footage looked somehow more violent than what we see in the final film– or are we just used to seeing it now, perhaps? I remember it being extremely effective when first seeing the film. I wish I could go back to that time!

KeymasterYou're right, Justin. Very happy the winning bidder has decided to share the footage– looking forward to seeing more!

KeymasterI tried looking for the wires on the Blu-ray and they weren't very noticeable to me. Actually, I don't think I was able to see them (it's been a while since I've seen the film in it's entirety).
Â
I thought that the effects were VERY well-done. It's cool how the special effects guy painted the wires with very small black and white dots. I never would have thought about doing that if I were in his position. It's even more clever when you think that the pattern he painted blends with the film's natural grain.
Â
The only special effects that I hated are the ones from the director's cut. I don't like the effects that Friedkin added to Regan's face when she's sitting in the chair during the hypnotism session. And the added subliminal images take away from the film. They become distracting, as opposed to the original subliminal images from the film, which I thought added to the tense/frightening feeling the film carries.

KeymasterIt might interest you guys to know that when Damien's mother is looking at him (actually, looking directly in the camera, as if we here him), she's looking to the left of the bed. The entrance to Regan's bedroom is to the right of the bed.
Â
This is a small blunder that I've found very difficult to overlook once I noticed it.

KeymasterWhy this hasn't been answered is beyond me. I don't have any answers for your, but it would interest me to know if Friedkin based the house in the film on the actual house (as it is on the inside).
Â
Actually, I wonder if the owners of the real house could 'remodel' it so that it looks exactly as it does in the film (would space be an issue)

KeymasterDid I just found out!?

KeymasterAgreed. If the play and this TV series are a success, a remake is almost inevitable.

KeymasterIf it's announced that, say, HBO or AMC are picking this up (as unlikely as that is) my hopes might improve a little. Until then I can't help but be under a cloud of doubt for this one.
The worst part will be when they announce the cast and a 'star' is attached in a key role to help promote it. The one thing I believe The Exorcist truly needs is a 'relatively unknown' cast to ensure the candid documentary style from the novel and film remains in tact.

KeymasterI agree, granville. I prefer the idea of a 2-part, 4-6 hour miniseries.
Lord have mercy if the show is somehow a success and they approve a second series. We'll have all sorts of crazy extensions and timelines going on.
Interesting side note: this is the 700th topic in The Exorcist forum. Nice timing!
