Wow, I really didn’t realize WETA Workshop and WETA Digital were two different things (duh!) thanks for pointing that out Erik!

I’d still hope a good director and solid script were well in place before a special effects group (digital or no) was decided.

And I stand firm on my veto of all things Dekota Fanning! Hopefully the idea of a remake is put off long enough so that she becomes too old for the role. 😉

Two names I don’t want anywhere near the remake include DEKOTA FANNING and WETA WORKSHOP.

If names like this are announced early after the remake is announced, it will be a sure sign it’s heading down the wrong path. In my humble opinion, of course. I’d dearly loved to be proven absolutely wrong!

I’d be excited with David Fincher directing, and I’d be very interested to see what Paul Thomas Anderson could do with it. These two directors are probably the only two directing at the moment who could hand a new Exorcist film the kind of realism an people/religious-focus the film should be based around.

For a more quirky result, maybe the Cohen Brothers?

Very nice effort with the video, it was interesting to watch. I have to agree with ekm here, I’m glad Friedkin kept his vision in mind and didn’t buckle when it came to the score.

Indeed, ekm’s book is going to drag much about this film back into the open.

My fav ‘spoof’ is REPOSSESSED starring Linda Blair.

Other rip-offs you could see are ABBY and BEYOND THE DOOR (a.k.a. THE DEVIL WITHIN HER). Trailers are posted below for you 🙂

    PRO

I somewhat agree with RatBoy’s idea above. If it were a completely new film, taking complete inspiration from the novel as apposed to just remaking Friedkin’s film, it MIGHT be half decent.

The trick would be to NOT call it ‘The Exorcist’.

And, no, ‘The Possession of Regan MacNeil’ doesn’t work, either.

I have to say the film. While the book remains one of the best horror texts I have ever read, the film has such depth and quality that I really do regard it as one of the greatest films of all time. If studied correctly, anyone can learn a lot from Friedkin’s film, especially budding filmmakers like myself. This site exists because of that film.

    Definitely the film for me.

I’ve always had the opinion that while there are many great things about Blatty’s book that we now have an interest in seeing as footage, there is no doubt Friedkin’s original cut of the film did what it needed to do in terms of deleting the stuff not needed for screen and keeping the film very on-track.

I would like to see more of Karras investingating the possession, which also goes into much more detail in the book.

The Exorcist was never on Broadway. Though Linda Blair can tap…

I actually think this would make it less terrifying and more ‘dumb-fuck’ proof, which is what most horror films are subject to these days for the average movie-goer. The filmmakers do all the thinking for you. It’s boring.

At least The Exorcist had/has us thinking when we view it.

Watching Regan hear the noises and slowly becoming possessed would be “oohhhh I think something freaky is going to happen…. BOOM! It did!! Wow, that looked awesome! Now what? Credits? OK, thanks for the popcorn…”

    *sigh*

Very nice, Mikey, I wish you all the best with this project! Film school students will study it one day, with valuable lessons contained, I’m sure.
