Impressive work. I’m in the same game so I understand how much nerve it takes to post something like this and put your work ‘out there’. Kudos! It seems you definitely have a knack for camera work.
This is a real shame. It could have been so much more. At least, as you say, there is something there for horror fans in general who may not know a lot about The Exorcist or have seen TFOG.
And, to be fair, FOG did cover many bases. It would be tricky for any future articles to NOT fall back on it.
The NECA cover is BLERG. There is a fine line between profit margin and selling out… The NECA stuff wouldn’t have been so bad with a different cover, perhaps?

Shining and Jaws absolutely. I watched Poltergeist recently and unfortunately it doesn’t hold up so much. It’s very clearly 80’s in a bad way… especially the animations. Might be due for a remake any day now.
That’s a shame to hear.
Would still like a scan for the Articles section, if anyone has the time.
Interested to hear further reviews from others who pick up the mag, as well.
fatherbowdern, nice call. I also liked The Others, although it didn’t ‘freak me out’ as much. Still a great film.
There is so much more going on in that scene than a second cigarette… that’s why I have never noticed it all these years. It is one of my favorite scenes in the movie.
The Exorcist is always one step ahead of the bunch, but other classic horror films that can easily be mentioned in the same breath include:
Jaws
The Shining
The Sixth Sense
An American Werewolf In LondonMy own personal opinion, of course. 🙂
I have to say one over-looked ‘thrill-ogy’ is the Final Destination series. Nothing profound in those films, but in terms of cheap suspense and some decent gore and original death sequences, they’re pretty damn good.
