KeymasterI know there has been a restoration, I just don’t know of which cut of the film (likely TVYNS if I were to guess). Both cuts will be on the Blu-ray.

KeymasterKidman might be too ‘head-strong’. Chris needs to be very vulnerable, confused, scared and searching.
Sofia, anyone seen BMX Bandits (Kidman’s first)??
The first movie I ever loved when I was a kid back in the day. I would rent it every weekend! Ha HaJason Stringer

KeymasterI’m not to sure about Jodie Foster playing Chris (she probably wouldn’t do TV anyway). Marlene for Regan would be an interesting choice.

KeymasterNever had the chance. And I hadn’t even seen The Exorcist in ’92. I was 12. π

KeymasterIf the teleplay is more faithful to the novel (which Blatty says it is) then the investigation into Regan’s possession is much more thorough and many more questions are raised. The film, I think, leans more toward the supernatural element – that Regan is, in fact, possessed and an exorcism must take place. I personally prefer this approach, too. To me, lying about the Holy Water, speaking another language and knowing of Karras’ mother passing all add up to supernatural powers.
But of course, this is the great debate about The Exorcist. It’s why still discuss it today. Trying to re-create that in a miniseries is a very scary (pardon the pun) prospect.

I'd still be content with a Legion Director's Cut

KeymasterLast I heard the Blu-ray was just a new restoration of the original (and or TVYNS) β not a new cut of any kind.

KeymasterFor whatever reason (I can not explain) I've always been enthralled by the moment when Merrin reaches forward to signal the Holy Cross in the air with his hands, and Regan/Pazuzu backs down slightly, seemingly petrified.

KeymasterI find Rob's take on it very enlightening, and I like that encourages the viewer to engage beyond what (unfortunately) most viewers see as a monster movie.
I'm sorry you are disappointed in the lack of response — these are brand new message forums with some old threads from old software left in tact. We discussed this thoroughly in 2007. I will endeavour to find it on my server and *bump* it because the discussion was very interesting.
I personally prefer to take The Exorcist on face value – that is, the demon Pazuzu entered Regan and cased her to behave the way she did. Paranormal, spiritual, and horrific. But that's just me.

KeymasterI've always felt that good triumphed the moment Karras leapt out that window. I've never understood the continued changes and debate over 'improving' the ending. I hope whatever Blatty has written for the miniseries isn't to⦠obvious. Because that leap out the window is dramatic and poignant.
