ParticipantMaybe we’ll at least get a 10th-anniversary-of-the-first-DVD DVD. In two years. 2009. 😛
Granted, the only difference between the 1999 one and such a followup would be the new one would have a keep-case, not the passe snapper. Gee, THANKS, Morgan Creek and WB. 😛 Surface, surface, surface! Naaah… give us CONTENT.
Trying to be optimistic for something, anything,

ParticipantRyan,
The currently more expensive ones are sure to have cheaper copies in decent condition sooner than later. And Demons Five, that’s always affordable. 🙂
Stay tuned, buddy. You’ll find a good deal on each… In time. 😉 GUARANTEED!

ParticipantGreat thoughts, Ben, but word around the campfire is that such happening is impossible, that the footage was negligently if not purposefully lost by that beacon of artistic honor, that champion of artists, that is [not] Morgan Creek.
But… because I believe in recycling… 😛 I re-offer this potential alternative, aside from a very welcome audio commentary of the film on a future DVD re-issue (fingers crossed!):
“…The most conceivable as being realistic in happening: An alternate version of the Legion novel. Blatty, of course, has revised Twinkle, Twinkle, “Killer†Kane into The Ninth Configuration, tying in with the film version, if I understand this right. AND, Morgan Creek commissioning two novelizations — one for the first prequel, and then the replacement. Maybe they’ll “double-dip†here as well, if they own any rights. Then again, they own all FUTURE rights, counting THE EXORCIST III aka, Legion, but NOT — if I’m not mistaken — the current Legion novel, a work created independently of its later cinematic visage. Morgan Creek only own the script. Sooo, while Blatty might not be able to do much, perhaps he create all new or significantly different material compared to what he brought to the lost and released versions of the film. I’d settle for THAT, I don’t know about you guys.
The law can only afford Blatty so much, so perhaps he ought to cut his losses and rise to the occasion, striving to tell the best “Legion†story he can independant of any of the film version’s baggage, concentrating on presenting what could conceivably be — or may as well be, rather — a veritable brand-new novel. The same novel, just improved.”

ParticipantI need to recheck that FACES OF FEAR interview; I remember no such passage.
I have heard every year of so about a story called Dimeter, an apparently second true sequel novel to The Exorcist. Hmmmm…
Incidentally, Elsewhere features some certain Georgetown Catholic priests in cameos.

ParticipantRyan, go for it! 🙂
Gosh, this sounds like a wonderful idea for a project, a book of such stories… I’m interested, if I can find the time! Any concrete requirements yet, Ben? Any general guidelines?

ParticipantYou know, that is a real, real temptation, guys (and gal, Blizzi!). There is no greater dream project than that, whose source material and characters are not my own.
Incidentally, I can promise you that I’ll be putting together such a yarn for one of my class projects at school, should one of my (comic book art) classes ever assign an adaptation project of, say, a great opening (as what we have in the Blatty novel and Friedkin film… Iraq — I’d looove to draw that!).
But beyond that, it would be great to deliver the whole story, based on both the film and the novel; in many ways the definitive adaptation of the story (at least in terms of content preserved from the novel), with any luck (well, maybe not when compared to the Friedkin film, but hopefully, maybe, the undisputed comic book version or graphic novel).
The hamster’s wheel is beginning to spin, incidentally…!
Two more thoughts:
1)I’m just as passionate (okay, maybe not quite!) about illustrating the unused alternate semi-final scene of the possessed Francis in DOMINION. I’ve been wanting to suprise you with it for some time, but no such luck, so now you know what to expect — eventually. 🙂
2)Morgan Creek apparently owns all the rights to anything and everything-‘Exorcist’ that happens to find its way into production, as per a covers-all-bases proclamation on their website. So, no matter what I might fully produce creatively in comic book format… consider it fan art. Unless Morgan Creek wants to get with the 21st Century and permit a graphic novel adaptation bearing the aformentioned content. Of course, they’d have me replaced with Rob Liefeld or someone else “less cerebral”. 😛 Note: Actually, I’m neither insuating that I’m Friedkin or Schrader, nor am I any of their comic book industry counterparts nor any of their inferiors’ comic book counterparts. But I can tell you that I would give this project as much care and love those greats strived to with their respective ‘Exorcist’ works. Note: I’d use the text or the film’s dialogue/narration verbatum, not changing a comma.
But just imagine, a beautifully drawn ‘Exorcist’ adaptation. Imagine one for the original and each of the sequels, causing fans and non-fans to re-experience the legendary film series in an all new way.
Thanks for your encouragement. I won’t let you down… In time. 😉

ParticipantHmmm… if the fans demand it, it will come. Just like with Dominion? 😀 Frankly, Blatty’s work is deserving of a comeback to the public eye. A resurgence. And I think Elsewhere genuinely does deserve a seperate singluar novel treatment. They split the atom and they split up Grindhouse with Tarantino’s Deathproof finding an audience of its own. So surely there’s an audience out there for this obscure Blatty gem.

ParticipantMore trailers and images floating around all over.
This film could be incredibly amazing as an expositional if not concluding sequel. I am in awe of what those guys at Twisted Pictures and Lionsgate have acheived with this horror saga.
