The good news is, both prequels leave it open for a sequel, and arguably the African exorcism “10 or 12 years ago, I think, Mike.” (If that’s not and exact quote, please don’t damn me, my fellow Exorcist fans!)

    Satan. Is. Real.

Ps.Father Francis in Dominion is a Catholic priest. Father Francis in The Beginning, a Ghostbuster in training. One of those portrayals is more on par with the kind of characters in the film these prequels profess to preceed chronologically; one of those potrayals of Francis as a minimum of two-dimensions, and I would argue three. Two cents. 😉

    Great ideas, all.

I’ve not chimed in long enough…

Divine intervention, would be my take; another point for God’s presence in the film/story/book. It was God’s mysterious will that the demon be driven out when and how it was. Leaving minimal damage to Regan’s body and face, so that those in her company would never forget their brush with evil, and the good. So whether the cuts were deep and literal, or simply a vision, I guess it doesn’t matter so much as God’s presence from the beginning, permitting this struggle of good versus evil, so that these select human beings might reexamine where the they stand or don’t stand with God, and either renew and strengthen their faith, or initiate it by God’s grace.

God allowed evil to fail its purpose, its scheme here, yet paradoxically serve Him and His will for humanity, that they might come to know and accept or reaccept Him. What he doesn’t do, however, is make them. It is a choice.

    Dseabroo,

Great observation. My only guess would be the demon opted not to bother with the eyebrows, it was such a frantic possession with no real audience to scare, unlike as Regan had. Pazuzu had a grown man to deal with, not a little girl to entice with a ouija board and a nickname like Captain Howdy. My take.

Bit of a dishonest cop, that Kinderman, eh? I mean, doesn’t he say “I lied” at least twice? Once being with regard to Sal Mineo, and the other when he’s getting Chris MacNeil’s autograph. I guess by 1990, when he looks like George C. Scott, he’s too “up there” to lie. 😛

    Pazrags, details here: http://www.evilagainstevil.com

Good things come to those who wait, for it takes a lot of time to get things right, to do such a book justice. Thanks for your continued interest. It could be 2009, 2010, 2011, it’s hard to say, given my practical priorities like grad school, housing and health insurance at the top of my list, not to mention my comic book ventures.

And with so much support from those I’ve interviewed or will be interviewing, it makes the task before me that more challenging, keeping my standards high, rendering the possibility of the book turning out less than definitive no longer an option. And it never was an option, nor is it now really possible, for I’ve lucked out, getting a nice percentage of the key players to to want to get their voices heard. EAE will pack a lot more of punch, if my math is right.

    God is here,

    MG

    Cap, that’s great! HAHA. 😛

Incidentally, I’m reminded of my old band-names-inspired-by-the-film thread. 😛

    “The response, please, Damien!” -Merrin

    “88 doctors…!” -Chris

    Thanks, Paz.

By the way, gang, Monday I interviewed Caleb Carr, for 3 hours. An amazing interview, to say the very least.

I also did a 17-minute interview with Schrader’s First A.D., Aaron Barsky. Nice guy, with a great memory. Lots of these folks are telling me it’s hard to remember stuff; but they must be pulling my leg, given the sheer amount of content they’re bringing to the table…!

For the rest of the individuals interviewed, you know where to go:

HD = fashionable gimmick for the interested public = restoration of WB’s bank account after their pact with Morgan Creek proved… expensive, each of three times.

Uneducated guess, but factual? I sure hope not.

The demon, Legion or “Morgan Creek” (taken from the ancient Gibberish), had a bone to pick with brain-endowed stories, and made, as any devil ought, Blatty kill the poor bird; the scene being a byproduct of the bigger effort to imbue whiz-bang scares, as in reshooting half the film and slapping an exorcism on at the end to validate the film as a sequel to The Exorcist.

So, the WHY was Hollywood can be crafty and sinister when cliched trends make money, and the original thinking gets jettisoned.

And the HOW was, Blatty was contracted — so he shot the scene in such a way to suggest that the demon, sans a human body, swiftly picks off the poor avian creature during his day of devilry — and he keeps his signed promises. That doesn’t mean, he, us, or anyone but the studio are terribly happy with the film, or ought to be. It has glimmers of greatness, but those are mere drops in the bucket. Okay, tablespoons.

Methinks a certain Australian, who posted right before me here, has what it take fors a SPECIAL fancut edition of TVYNS, eliminating such defects.

No pressure, Justy. 😉 Amazing work, indeed, on that animated gif. To tell you the truth, I STILL don’t see any wires, not even in the gif. 😮 I suppose I love this film too much and need professional help. 😛

Scott Stambler, operator of the Paul Schrader Blogspot (link above), and composer for Silano’s documentary, posted this as a comment there:

“They are running a little behind in the DVD finishing. We hope to have it up here for sale ASAP. This whole project is a labor of love…”

Tim Silano has also confirmed this news for me. Hang on, guys. I assure you, it will compel your time and fandom once you hit ‘play’ on thy DVD players.

Picked that ARC up, at half that aforementioned copy’s price (and sans the prestige of the “proper” auction system and obligatory buyer’s fee based on end price), not a week past the ending of the other one. :O

    Don’t hate me too much…! 😛
