ParticipantUnless they can use as much footage from the original film as humany possibly (all of it!!!!), this remake has no chance of… anything.
I’d love a TV miniseries, as well, but they’ll proabably go big-screen, considering how forgotten THE SHINING miniseries years back is.
Yeah, Burstyn is a huge reason why “If it isn’t broken, don’t fix it” applies here. So, if they know what’s good for ’em, they may as well just re-release the original film. No remake. Morgan Creek has spent enough on the Exorcist with only really Dominion and The Exorcist III (to an extent, thanks to that final “exorcism” reel) to show for it.

ParticipantI’d love that — a TV mini-series. Set in any time, and by Blatty (hopefully), it could only be better than a big-screen desecration of the film. I think more thought and imaginiation would be required, by default.

ParticipantAmen, Granville, amen.
Boy do I wish they’d just remove THE HERETIC and EXORCIST: THE BEGINNING and start a competing series of Exorcist films, leaving the good ones completely alone. THAT’S the way to sell these movies, Morgan Creek and WB! Some people want silliness, others want seriousness. Separate the films. They’re different as night and day. This “Anthology” DVD set coming out could have been your chance. Maybe next time, when this set fails to really sell. Or maybe I’m wrong; it could sell. Hmmmm…
Note: THE EXORCIST III could join the Boorman and Harlin film’s; it is, after all, a film soiled and dumbed-down by Morgan Creek, thanks to that shoe-horned exorcism-for-scares. Needless to say, Blatty’s original — even if just the confirmed VHS rough cut with unfinished effects, etc, a film affectionately known as LEGION or LEGION 1.0 — should join the Friedkin and Schrader films.
C’mon, Morgan Creek and WB — two different trilogies, each with versions of LEGION and the prequel.

ParticipantIt’s all very strange and surely — SURELY — conicidental…! 😐

ParticipantGood, good examples — agreed. Also, remember the “Exorcist Steps”, which in the novel is referred to as the Hitchcock Steps… unless I’m wrong. 🙂
Incidentally, Francis Ford Coppola’s BRAM STOKER’S DRACULA (1992) sure seemed to steal/borrow from THE EXORCIST… Watch it once or thrice and you’ll surely recognize visual after visual…! 😐 🙂

ParticipantMaybe, maybe, maybe Blatty’s VHS copy of HIS Legion version — a rough cut — could turn up as a second disc or special feature. Blatty HAS such a copy of the film, which, given all accounts concerning THE “Blatty version” that never surfaced, is in fact the closest thing to being a finished film THAT Exorcist sequel will EVER be. The footage and other necessities Blatty and co. would require to assemble his PROPER cut… are MIA. Probably decomposing in James G. Robinson’s office bathroom’s septic tank. GRRRRR.

ParticipantJusty, you don’t have E:TB? What is WRONG with you…?!
Wait, nevermind — that’s being harsh; you deserved a pat on the back. Good man. 😀

Found this great links page of pre-Renny Harlin-era prequel news. OLD articles (circa 2001). These articles sure made us (many of us) wonder and wait with wonder and enthusiasm. Getting those nuggets o’ info to read and ponder every so often was half the fun, too. Sigh. 🙂
Fascinating stuff, certainly now given what ultimately happened — we got two movies.

ParticipantTHAT’S IT! That’s a great idea! How realistic, given Blatty’s age, I don’t know. But I bet he might very well be interested in such, certainly that such an idea MAY have occurred to him.
Fingers crossed, but breath not held.

ParticipantWOW! I’m truly impressed. GOOD FIND! I had no idea the makers of THE HERETIC did their homework better than the makers of EXORCIST: THE BEGINNING, getting their Pazuzu iconography to be African and not Iraqi. I’m truly astounded. 😮
One more point for THE HERETIC. 😛

ParticipantWhere’d you get it? I now have a regionless DVD player and am tempted to pick this baby up, given there’s likely never to be one made for the big R1. 😐
Thank you.

ParticipantHatty,
I’m a true believer in this fan edit of yours. 😮 I like what I hear and see, for the most part.
Keep anything and everything coming to us as previews. It’s looking more interestesting and worthwhile all the time.
