ParticipantPretty slick, Hat.
Solid work. Wish I had those programs, modest as you say they are.

ParticipantHere’s one that always bugged me (feel free to also ask your own in this or a new thread):
What the chances are that that Jomo was the culprit of the murders of the two soliders in the church? I’d say, given the fact that he WAS possessed later in the film, or went insane and killed the kids, then perhaps he could have done that as well. And like with the Francis/tree scene (where I think some other villager may have been similarly possesed or insane), the murderer was “touched by the Devil” (I hate that phrase :p ) and the Devil wanted to have some fun and had the person display the resulting corpses in the specified Biblical scenarios.
I’d first assumed the soldiers just went nuts and killed themselves, he fact that Jomo had been walking toward teh church, instead of simply standing and watching, I have my suspicion. And no, I am not racist, in case anyone is wondering why I’m trying to pin this on Jomo. 🙂
Thank you for your telling me what you think/know. As the film is now, it seems ambiguous as to who truly the killer(s) were.

ParticipantGreat insight there, I have to say. Plausible.

ParticipantWOW, this fan cut of yours sound really good, Father Lamont! Sounds like you’ve got a handle of the major issues to deal with in your editing.
Now if you really wanna impress me, give it a connection to any or all of the other films in the series, aside from the 1973 original. I am a shameless sucker for “the prequels”; mind you Renny Harlin’s film is only exists to me if I’m pushing “fast-forward” — I have my standards. 😛
Incidentally, if you’re really, really talented, feel free to use other, NON-‘Exorcist-titled’ films, for plucking footage from to add here. I half-kid here. 😛
It’d be cool if this and the other fan cut in the works (Hatter’s Dominion) could both be made available for free download from a single source and/or copied and shared via mail; with no money paid, of course. In time. Maybe. 🙂

ParticipantI think you previously disclosed intentions of what to diminish and excise is more than enough. The minimum. 😛 But, should you get the prequels or any other films, that would be icing on the cake; not required. 🙂
But as for other film suggestions, maybe films depicting certain cast members. I know, pretty vague. 😛

ParticipantIf there’s ever been a franchise (much as I hate using that tacky word) more deserving of at least a decked-out boxed set of such extras, AFTER the Alien series and Star Wars, of course, it would HAVE TO BE this one.
In my agreeable opinion! 😛

ParticipantGood points, and it does make perfect sense.
I just wonder then wouldn’t it have been a pluralized versions of the word (“Dominions”), if it were about multiple dominions? Not being sarcastic, Justy, just throwing it out to you. 🙂
Neither are terrible ideas as titles for this fan edit; I just think that The Dominion resonates and has the impact a serious Exorcist prequel or sequel warrants.
I think there is a primary dominion presented (with the others) in Schrader’s film. Therefore “The Dominion” could be more justified, I believe.
Great discussion, guys.

ParticipantHatter, nice work. Of those, I like black-on-white (second version downward on the left) the best. The “THE” on top is what makes it, mirroring the Friedkin film’s credits logo design.
I would offer, however, that it looks too much like that logo, so perhaps keeping the format of “THE” above “DOMINION”, but reverting back to the “classic” ‘Dominion’ style font. Luckily you should just be able to blow up the “THE” from the ‘PREQUEL TO THE EXORCIST’ subtitle. Doing that, and keeping it black letters on white background retains the Schrader film identity, while evoking the Friedkin film; this way it’s not too forced.
By the way, I appreciate the “Hannibal” sentiment you shared. I would offer, though, “The Exorcist” and “The Dominion” are both phrases uttered in those respective films. Whereas with Hannibal, a specific human being, “Hannibal” is his name, not a title nore a role.
As always, just tryin’ to help, and opinionate. 😉

ParticipantJusty, it is one Dominion in the film. The Devil’s dominion is this world, whreas God’s is in the hearts of those who call him God. Since the worldeverywhere, thus their moving the story from America to Africa, to show that evil knows no bounds and will go after anyone, white, female children (Georgetown) and older black, disabled men (Kenya).
Dominion could have even been the title for THE EXORCIST, but the Friedkin film focused on the one man; on a microcosm level; a bedroom, really, not a whole region in Africa.
This one, Dominion, focuses on a whole region, where evil effects not just the posessed in terrbile and original ways, cuasing Cheche to do evil yet becoming healthier and perfected.
Since there is one Dominion referenced in the Schrader film, I’d still to my opinion that it warrants “THE”. Sounds more imposing and creepier, too. Less generic and forgettable, like, say, when the word is used in a Star Trek episode, no offense Trek fans. 🙂

ParticipantExcellent, excellent. Oh, and let me say one more thing:
About your tests so far, they just seem too spectacular, too… much. I think a fiery explosion just doesn’t fit with this Paul “understate it” Schrader film. Maybe in Renny “overstate it!” Harlin’s film…
I think an elegant Bram Stoker’s Dracula-type destruction — understated destruction — is ideal for the scene and film. Just my opinion, as always.
