ParticipantYes, Mr. Blatty and family. Thank you for sharing, and letting us be of some comfort to you.
Wow. The video hit a nerve with me, as well; it moved me, caused me to reevaluate areas of my life, which has been a rollercoaster with more downs than than ups; the lowest points being most recently, including a family tragedy of my own; grandfather passed away in late November.
To make a long story short, I’ve chosen to let God return to the center, at the forefront of my thoughts, and therefore, my actions.
Your son Peter’s example as echoed through the quotes of friends and family present in this video rung authenically like Christ; Christian. Loving. The kind of man with whom God is well pleased. The more such examples I hear about or know personally, the better. I suppose such quality examples aren’t abundant in my life, or I’m just not looking hard enough.
Whatever the case, those of our faith are at our best when we have examples such as Peter. Your sharing this video has given me the motivation to be on the lookout for other such people in and out of my life. Without such examples, mirrors of Christ, to inspire and encourage us in our daily Christian walk, life can seem impossible.
My heart goes out to you and your dealing with your loss, but your sharing this has been a real blessing. I hope it might help others here as well.
Thank you again and God bless.
Mike

ParticipantRight away, please. Can’t hurt, once you get the ball rolling. THANKS for the effort! 😀

ParticipantIt’s good, but I think it’s actually too minimal and generic, just as with “PREQUEL TO THE EXORCIST” makes too much.
I humbly suggest you make it THE DOMINION.
Besides, a majority of “fine films” have THE as a first word in the title, anyway. 🙂 The Godfather, The French Connection, The Exorcist, The Illusionist, The Prestige, The Day The Earth Stood Still, and many others. “THE” Just gives it real power and feeling, makes it stronger. Amazing what a little word can do!
We have THE EXORCIST. Just “EXORCIST” would be… too minimal.
And since this prequel (the better of the two prequels) is a nice companion piece to the original, it just seems more balanced to refer to the films like so:
The Dominion
The Exorcist
The Exorcist
The Dominion
Not imbalance or lop-sided like this:
The Exorcist
Dominion
Dominion
The Exorcist
Please consider and sound it out: The Dominion. No plain “Dominion” and no bizarre, clumsy “Prequel to the Exorcist”. Just my opinion. No pressure. 😉

ParticipantThanks for the insight, Cap. Makes sense to me.
I had thought it might be more or less public knowledge, if there was a website for example; I understand that you can look up that kind of stuff for music.
Anyway, I guess now I’m just curious and wondering if Dominion has done respectably on DVD; I’m sure The Beginning has, Exorcist III probably, and even The Heretic — the older sequels by virtue of the fact they’re older films with more time to get noticed. And the original 1973 film, I believe that’s done respectably, as well. 😉 But the newest and arguably the most controversial, how it’s done in the 14 months since its release, I wonder.

ParticipantNumber 3 or 4, although a recommend a 5th:
Have it just breaking into large fragments and falling to the ground, like the breaking stone cross falling during the falling-of-Constantinople scene in the opening scene of BRAM STOKER’S DRACULA (on YouTube, quite possibly, if you don’t already have it.).
But the speed at which the cross breaks, and into just a few major pieces with smaller fragments, that’s what I think would serve such a demolition of the African Pazuzu statue. A nice idea, by the way — destroying it. Sort of a prelude to the ruins in Northern Iraq circa 1973, home to a Pazuzu statue.

ParticipantHatter, thank you for sharing. I think you’re on the right track. It’s an ambitious project, but through your trial and error I think it sounds like it will all be for the best. Recoloring only certain scenes I think is the way to go. I think that last one you shared was very, very effective at not only being creepier (without it being silly), but also resembling the Friedkin film more closely.
I’m staying tuned. Take your time with this project, just don’t quit it. It’s too intriguing to go unseen. And your clips thus far indicate real quality, craft, and care.
Sincerely,

ParticipantImpressive, slick work, Hat! Genuinely unsettling and creepy. 😀
I do think, however, the vocals of the music and the voices of the characters onscreen are competing with eachother too much; it’s rather distracting. Maybe if you toned it down or found a similar music piece sans voice…
Of course, that could be a lot of work, and you’re already done A LOT, so nevermind me. I trust and can see already it’s a fancut of a rather high quality and consistancy! 🙂

ParticipantWow, who’s your supplier, there, Justy? 😛 Nice finds, finds! Kermode needs to hire you (“hire” as in the American phrase for “pay you”, not the Australian “to rent”)! 😉

Ps.And while we’re at it, here’s one I’d found…

“It takes a big man to wear a big dress.” -Paul Schrader. And I had another, a behind-the-scenes of Mann and Crawford. Justy, can you post if for me? I seem to have lost it. Thanx.
ManInKhakiExorcist
ParticipantSo true, so true, Justy. 🙂 So the day it is put in the rare pics section, the sooner we can avoid the 102nd time. 😉 😛
It’s a cool pic! 😀
As for that Crawford/Mann pic, I totally forgot it was there. Thanks! 😛

Good luck with all that, Hatter. It’ll work out for the best.

December 28, 2006 at 11:59 PM in reply to: Re: Wait, Renny Harlin and Morgan Creek may have redeemed themselves #16126ManInKhakiExorcist
ParticipantIn the opening moments of the behind-the-scenes on the EXORCIST: THE BEGINNING DVD (and on the commentary), Renny Harlin specifies the possessed girl from the first Exorcist, Regan, is a “14-year-old girl”.
So clearly Morgan Creek have in mind the 14-year-old Regan from John Boorman’s THE HERETIC, and thus the HERETIC film itself, as the film they’re prequelling with “The Beginning.” I mean, really, how do they come up with “14-year-old”? They must have lost sight of the classy film they thought they were making a prequel to, the Friedkin Exorcist, and subconsciously (consciously?!) made THEIR film a truly worthy prequel to that 1977 trash.
Seriously, at this would help to explain how terrible their film was. See, Paul Schrader, apparently always took the 1973 original into account; he looked at the core, whereas Harlin and co stole heavily and ricocheted off in 1977 Boorman/Heretic Land.
Or something.
Yes, I just supply the ideas. It’s other people’s jobs to tear ’em apart. 😉

ParticipantAs long as any or all of the above AREN’T EXCLUSIVELY on the “new wave” (ie. Blu Ray and HD-DVD, etc), hey, I’d be interested!
HD-DVD and BLU-RAY are so unneeded (by not just me!), it’s obscene. 😐
As for the idea of a special edition of THE EXORCIST III, it would have to be anything and everything Morgan Creek would bestow for the film that was seen in theatres in August of 1990; meaning, and unfortunately, NOT the LOST cut, the original version, the thoroughly wonder-provoking one that apparently exists in an unfinished form on a VHS tape belonging to Mr. Blatty himself. At this point, I would, however, love to see video interview included where Blatty going into considerable detail about his lost film. That would be all I’d personally ask or hope for, in the event of a special edition. 🙂
