I must agree with you colombiancannon, If they were to make a remake of the film we all like so much , i hope they do fallow the formula of less is more. We all seen the first screen test of make up that Dick Smith had done and if i may say that they did not work. So what did he do ?He toned it down and came up with a make up that made you believe that Reagan was possed.
I must agree with Captain Howdy. It is obvious from the start of the Exorcism that FR.Karras is like a deer in headlights.He was just in such awe in whats going on that he forgets when to answer FR. Merrin in the middle of the Exorcism rights.
He gets his groove per say when it too late …
Yes its safe to say that Fr. Karras would not have lasted that long in there with Pazuzu if he alone was to perform the exorcism.I belive that is the beauty of the movie and also the novel in that is so well researched and put together.Blatty made sure of that.
To be honest the film holds a lot of fond memories, in that it scared the living crap out of me as a child. I am going to give the old man syndrome , in my day (lol) people just were not exposed to that much horror and gore in a movie.You have to remember that there were people fainting in the middle of the movie and that does not happen in todays scary movies.My children have seen the movie and they are not scared to see the film because in my opinion they have been exposed to far more things that i ever had at there age.The information that they are ingulfed in these days make the young generation much more callous than my generation.I think some of you can agree on that statement.
I also was raised in a Catholic house hold and i think that had a much more profound impact in my young life. I am still Catholic but i am not as involved in the church as i was in my youth , thus making my children less afraid of things.Being Catholic in those days meant you were just much more afraid of the supernatural than i would be today at that same age.I am sorry if my words came out like that Slam234 i just was pointing out something i picked up from reading your comments. I mean no ill will towards you … I hope you accept my apologies.
Justin , You are the man, i just never seen the wires and bam there they are. Thank you for showing that to me , next time the movie is on in my house i will point out to who ever is in the room watching with me and i will take credit for it .Nahh , i will give you the credit my friend.
My two cents on FR. Karras dream is the following . I do agree that Karras had an enormous amount of guilt , that is evident on subway scene of him and his mother. One can see the desparation on Karras face and manarisims when he see his mother and his mother pays him no mind or ignores him because she is angry at him. IE(Like she was in the hospital, she was inconsolable and i take she was pissed at him for leaving her there.THUS THE GUILT) I interpret his mother turning around slowly towards the subway and going down the the stairs as her slow demise and Karras not able to help her. Even though he sees her in need he is helpless to save her and to make it all good.
I also think that the demon attacks him in this way to soften him up per say. The demond knows the players involved in this game long before Karras even is aware of it.My 2 cents are in and thats my take on FR.Karras dream.Thanks Justin .. I just never really payed that much attention to the wires. I guess i was just to scared and involved in the movie to noticed. I will pay more attention next time i watch the movie. Thats why i love this site one gets little nuggets of gold.
Slam234, I take it you are very anal in every thing you do in life, it is evident in how you carry on this very subject. I dont mean to be an ass to you but DUDE! let it go.You made your point and still nobody cares what you think if it is ,or if it is not SUBLIMINAL images that appear in the movie.Heck, Captainhowdy even tells you from the start that he is aware that subliminal is probably the wrong term to use but since we all know it by that term he rolls with that.I get what your trying to do but you are spliting hairs and you loose people when you get on this crazy notion that you are right and the rest of the world is wrong.
