I see what your saying . True they could have done a little better job on some of the actors that they used for the interview shots but i guess the makers of the film wanted that look of no trained actors and it came out a little cheesy. What got me was the last 20 minutes of the film it really creeped me the #%&* out it is the basic fear of man. Darkness , being chased , the not knowing or not able to explain what the hell is chasing you in the dark. So with that said the film creeped me out and it made me change some thing in my every day life.madaztec2
ParticipantIn my humble opinion THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT was one of the films that when I first saw shook me a bit. The ending in particular was what shook me and made me ask what the heck?! I also must admit that it changed the way I displined my children, if you guys remember the witch made the children face the coner as she did her deed.So to me THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT since it made me change a facet of my every day life.

ParticipantThe subject of possesion in the hispanic culture is something that we tend to belive in.Like Dseabro said in this thread, that there is no scientific proof that this phenomena really is real but yet culture still belives in the possesion. I remember when I was a child how my older sister reacted after she saw the movie, it was as if the movie was a real documentary of a real girl being possed. I have read how some fans of this site reacted when they saw the Exorcist for the very first time and I tell you it wasn’t as severe as when my older sister saw the movie. She was one of those that fainted in the very theater and lost all nerve.I tend to belive that because our deep catholic up bringing is intertwined with supernatural belief she took the movie to heart. Now 35 years later my sister a little wiser and older that is not the case.We have chatted over the subject of how she fainted in the theater and her only explaination is that the movie had a great impression on her and that things she believed in then are not what she belives in now.As for me ,I do belive in possesion.

I must agree with you in the fact that there should be a mini series as you mentioned. There are to many good things in the book things that are not in the film and the only way to bring them to life is a mini series as you mentioned.
I can say that what i would love to have seen in the movie that is the book it would be the converstation that Karras has with Regan as he is trying to to put a case together if she is really possed.madaztec2

I have never heard of a case in my life of a child having a mental disorder giving him/her extreme strength, but thats just me telling you this never having worked in the particular medical field.
The only example i can give you that even comes close to what you are asking is the following. In my family we have a child born with down syndrome . So with that said, i can give you an example that may come close to what you ask.
I remember one instance not so long ago this child took hold of my car keys as most toddlers do and would not turn them
over for the life of me.I went to get the keys from this young child and tell you i felt brut strength.I have children of my own i can tell you i never recall my children having that much strength when they were his age.I must say i took a little harder tug on my keys for the child let go of the keys. I remember thinking” man that kid is strong” as i was trying to pry my keys loose from this kid’s grip.
I know that this not what you asked but thats the only thing i could compare it too.madaztec2
ParticipantYou are so right Nightboi, I had forgotten about that.
Yes, there is also somewhere in the book where it says that LT. Kinderman scraches some paint off the clay bird figure to have it analyzed. It it is later known that the paint used on the clay bird figure is also used in the church desecration.madaztec2
ParticipantI have gone back and have taken my time to read the book, since this and other questions have been brought up from fans of the book and the movie.
As for the desecration of the chruch it was LT. Kinderman who brought this to light, by the clues he has gathered lets us know that it was Regan who had done the desecration and the killing of Burke Dennings . In the novel LT. Kinderman in the begining thought that it was Karl who might have killed Burke Denning since 1) he lied about his where abouts in the night in question 2) Dennings always messed with Karl of he being a Nazi and Karl insisting he was Swiss(in the party Karl and Dennings having a scuffle)
That road was quickly closed of Karl killing Dennigs when LT. Kinderman follows Karl to his jukie daughter Elvira’s apartment and there he realizes why Karl lied of his whereabouts that night. He lied because he wanted to protect his daughter and to shield her mother(his wife) , who belived Elivra to be dead and past all harm and degradation.
LT, Kinderman belived that the desecration of HOLY TRINITY Burke’s death were somehow linked together. Both involved witchcraft and the one who did the desecration could have been the one who murdered Denning.
Then LT.Kinderman notice that an expert on black mass,(FR. Karras)is making visits to the residence of Mrs. McNeil.
Another clue is the the prints that were recovered on the note left behind on the altar . One of the finger prints were Fr. Karras since he handled the note to translate the note but they were another set of print. Those prints that came from a smaller hand quite possibly of a child.
The typing on the altar card had been compared to a typed impression on a letter that Sharon had crumpled and was taken by LT. Kinderman. The report had come to the conclusion that the letter and the card were done by the same type writer but different person. The typist of the altar card had a much heavier stoke than that of Sharon it also was suggested that altar card could have been done by someone with extraordinary strength.
LT.kinderman always thought that Burke Dennings death was not accident that he had been killed by someone with alot of strength, he came with that conclusion by the way Burke Dennings head was. It was turned facing the wrong way.
The last clue was the airline reservation the Chris had take Regan to Dayton, Ohio . LT. Kinderman knew that Regan was ill and was being taken to a clinic. He put two and two together and he figured that Barringer would be the clinic she would be going to. A phone call was made to the clinic , they confirmed she had been seen but could not say for way she was seen for.He concluded that it was for a mental disorder.Serious mental disorders cause extraordinary strength , he thought to him self.
LT. Kinderman knew or felt that Regan was the one and the same responsible of the desecration and Dennings death. Those were the clues that the book gave us .madaztec2
ParticipantI tend to belive that William Friedkin is a brilliant director,as many of you also think of him along those lines. In all his brilliance , Friedkin always seems to exaggerates to create hype, in my humble opinion. I have said in the past that hype about anything makes people talk. In turn this makes people want to see or rebuff what ever Friedkin has exaggerated on. So in turn the hype thats been generated manifest it self in the all mighty dollar.I really belive that it is a calculated move on his part to start a dialogue among the people that go and pay for a movie ticket or buy DVD’s that he directs.
Look at us, we are having a conversation on a movie that made it’s debut back in 1973.That is staying power if you ask me. All because Friedkin always exaggerates on things that happend behind the scene. Is that brilliant or what .June 6, 2008 at 11:59 PM in reply to: It started like any other Thursday,it so happend to be April 28 #20491madaztec2

No, I did not leave that detail out it is in there. It is right after… The books version
right underneath that it starts out
Gliding spiderlike, rapidly, close behind Sharon, her body…. this is straight out from the book .
I take it by your response that is creepy to you too.June 6, 2008 at 11:59 PM in reply to: It started like any other Thursday,it so happend to be April 28 #20494madaztec2

In my opinon the scariest scene for me is when FR. Karras goes for the first time to visit Regan .It is the first time we see Regan all possed out. I can remember the reaction it got from me when I saw this scene for the first time.(Scared the living s@%t out of me) It it is also when the demon throws up on FR. Karras. Classic …madaztec2
ParticipantSlam234, Here we go again with you and the word “Subliminal”.Lets not beat that dead horse any longer. Anyway I read the article found by our friend colombiancannon and I have to say there is a similarities between the films. Friedkin always denied any knowledge of the subliminal images because ,in my opinion,he wanted to hype the movie. The more you talk about something the more people just want to see for them self. That in turn makes more hype and that equals .. the all mighty dollar.

ParticipantI must agree with granville 1 on all points that he made. I will also bring to light that the way Blatty wrote the novel, it was not just writen for the sake of a novel just to have been writen. Blatty touches many facets of our lives faith , guilt , the strugles of good and evil and that is just some of many layers that Blatty writes about in his novel.
I like the way Blatty uses all his subjects in his novel. He thought of all aspect to make the novel believable he left no rock left unturned. It is like Blatty wrote the novel thinking ummm… lets see if i were reading this novel what would be the facts i need for me to believe this little girl could be possed. Ok. Lets make the family atheist … that way there is no background of the family knowing any religious rituals ,i.e exorcisims, possesion.Ok. once girl starts to have a change of chracter due to the possesion of the demon lets exhaust all psychological help and as well as all medical test…. make the DR. look bewildered and steer them to make the proclamation that medicine can’t help but the church can help the symptoms that are taken place in the girl….. This is were i bring the religion aspect in the novel, good against evil.Ok … now i have two priest, the young one has lost or is questioning his faith and the older priest has had a past with the demon that has possed the little girl….and in the end the young priest will find his faith .Ok. The end …. lets see the two priest die but good wins and the girl is no longer possed.I know that i made no justice to Blatty’s novel but to me he made sure he exhausted every step before he went to another step in his novel. -
