The more I think about it, the more I think you are right Justin. I also think Demondan is probably right too. My guess is there was probably something shot that may have been taken out of the film early on in the editing process. Perhaps Chris seeing Karl on the floor may have been too confusing or possibly may have led the audience to believe that Karl was the one who suggested the act in the first place? I’m glad they took it out but it is always cool to see things like this that have been missed for 40+ years!!! Great eye!!

I’ve never noticed this either. It’d be really interesting if it was Karl lying on the floor, which would solve the whole “how did Regan get the crucifix” debate. Though, my guess is that it’s a special fx person who accidentally got into the shot….

I kinda like the little touch of the doll.  To me it symbolizes innocence in stark contrast to whatever is going on inside.  I do like the light shining out hinting at something supernatural.

I'm kinda partial to the blue hue that was given to the 25th Anniversary and beyond editions.  Before reading DocSap's article I wasn't aware of any changes made prior to the 25th Anniversary.  Where did you get this information?

I admire your dedication but having looked at the screen grabs and not just actually seeing the whole film, I don't know if I would accept the old/new way it looks.  I grew up on the 25th Anniversary of the film so that's the version I prefer.

The 2000 version had its problems for sure…side note I have been complaining about one particular quick cut of the Pazuzu statue in Regan's room in the middle of the film…I even posted an altered version of the scene that I edited onto Youtube and to my surprise it wasn't in the Bluray version…so maybe great minds think alike…

Anyways, it looks like DocSap's version is a bit on the dark side.  There may have been audience complaints and the studio caved and wanted the prints altered and lightened for the re-release.  If I remember correctly, there was similar problem with the 1989 Batman.

I definitely would be interested in seeing those 2 supplemental features that you included.  Any chance they would make their way onto Youtube?

Crack it open and see what's on it.  I'm guessing promotional material only because 128 mb is not enough to hold any HD content.  Still a cool find.

Maybe its just the quality of the pic or its just a weird angle but doesn’t it look like Captain Howdy was supposed to have a lion-like mane?

Are there any rare pics in the book?

Wow I really like that first one.  However, I do agree the font is terrible and almost jokey.  I like how it hints at something very horrific with a small view of a hand reaching up.  If the image that they ended up going with wasn't so powerful, this would have been a great poster.

The second one is very misleading and doesn't really get anything across as far as tone or atmosphere of the film.

“Climatically dying”? Have I been watching a different version all these years?

This is very interesting but….I'm glad they didn't use this effect too much in the movie.  It becomes comical pretty quickly and isn't nearly as effective as the “tossing Reagan” effect we saw.  That being said….THIS IS FRIGGIN AWESOME TO WATCH!!!!!!!  A piece of history that hasn't been seen in 40 years!!!

Also the idea of Regan in
a straight jacket would have been interesting. It looks as if they had been considering it. Although I dont think it would have worked as well as it did in the final version.

A few observations about this amazing footage.

-The man standing beside the bed is more than likely not WPB.  It actually looks like it may be Owen Roizman.  If you watch his footage you can see why I'd say that, although my guess is it would be neither but maybe someone else working on the crew and standing in for lighting purposes.

-Linda appears to be wearing white (possibly Captain Howdy) makeup.  It's possible that this footage may be have been done very early in pre-production before it was scrapped for the version that eventually came to pass.

-It looks like they could have easily gotten away with a shot of the demon “body slamming” Regan, as seen in the first shot of the harness footage.  That would have looked even creepier than what's in the film, not taking anything away with what is.

If I had to guess, the footage that BD has leads up to something more and more amazing.  Fingers crossed that's it's something we didn't even know existed!!!

I really hope he isn’t blowing smoke. I absolutely loved the bluray release but really felt there could have been more new special features i.e. full cast commentary and possible a more in depth documentary. Of course I would absolutely love to see all the Captain Howdy footage which they continue to tease us with!!
