ParticipantSofia, do you know where I can find an online version of the “A&E Biography: Turning Heads?”
Also, I think that’s Dietz doing the spinning on the wire over the bed – or – it could be the stunt double – or – the contortionist that did the spiderwalk scene (it’s definitely not Linda in that scene because the face does even match … pay attention to the contortionist’s nose versus Linda’s nose … very different indeed).

ParticipantThat’s really ashamed … maybe WB will gives all the extras on Blu-Ray when it comes out in, oh, maybe 2015! 😉

ParticipantI’m not sure Paz … I think Friedkin really wanted a violent ending to a violent exorcism and we wouldn’t have had that if we hear it only. Friedkin added many different nuances to the scene like Karras choking the demon out of Regan and saying, “Come into me … God damn you, take me!” The demon obliges and we see Karras demonically transformed and then back again before throwing himself out of the window … which, in turn, has an impression of his mother’s face on it before he crashes through. 😛 It may have worked, but we’ll never know since they didn’t film it according to the book.

ParticipantFellini, from what I’ve seen, the Captain is already adding videos and also some pretty slick webpage pluses. 🙂

ParticipantFellini, if you have a round-robin email, I’m sure the Captain can sneak into WB and to Friedkin, or better yet, to the producer and writer, Bill Blatty. I’d just love to see a HD/Blu-Ray version, but that’s not happening anytime soon … unfortunately.

Participantjguthrie, I love all the films you mention, but I have to say they don’t hold a candle to The Exorcist. There wasn’t anything like before it was made and there hasn’t been anything after to date. It is the classic that so many want to reproduce and they do it unsuccessfully. It’s the bomb! 😛

ParticipantI just now opened this blog entry, Justin … cool pic of Blair taking pictures! I’ll bet she’s a really fun person.

ParticipantYou’re welcome, dsea. The review has already been submitted to Amazon.com with a plug for this site … the more the merrier, right? 😉
fatherbowdern
ParticipantOh, hush, dsea! 😉 There will never be nothing like the original … can you imagine that screaming little girl from the Tom Cruise version of War of the Worlds playing Regan? NOT! 🙂
fatherbowdern
ParticipantBut, of course …

ParticipantCool … Depeche Mode!

ParticipantWelcome Back, Greg! 🙂
I agree about Linda (like Sweet Hostage). Hindsight is 20/20 for everyone, of course.
However, I do think Linda fell prey to the “child actor syndrome” of being known for one thing like The Exorcist and Hollywood steered clear of her after her tremendous performance because she became “box-office poison” even without giving her chance to prove she could act in other theatrical releases (but parts are very limited for young performers).
Although she was nominated for an Academy Award and lost to Tatum O’Neal in Paper Moon (Tatum gave a great performance, too), I still believe politics played an important role in giving the Oscar to Tatum over Linda. I do mean Hollywood politics played a part because the power-players (being, oh about 98% men), couldn’t stand the idea of awarding Linda for “saying” such foul language. I think it’s the, “What would people say if we gave her that award for shoving a crucifix in her crotch?”
I just wish Linda would have had the opportunity to break free of Regan. I know that Ellen Burstyn had made a comment that Linda couldn’t act all (I read that here somewhere), but Ellen broke free a year later and won an Oscar for her performance in Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore. Again, I think the Academy overlooked Ellen’s nominated performance in The Exorcist and gave her the award the following year for a much “sweeter” film. I absolutely admire Ellen and think she can do anything on screen. I don’t think the Academy is fair at all because her performance in Requiem for a Dream definitely should have won over the performance of Julia’s Roberts in Erin Brockovich (which I enjoy as well, but it sure as hell wasn’t as good as Ellen’s when you compare apples to apples). 🙂

ParticipantTrue … and lest we forget the wonderful foul odor in the room when Regan is being hypnotized. All that gagging that Chris does and the covering of her mouth meant something, right? I do remember reading the sauerkraut line. I think it’s when Karras walks into the room and the demon is doing his mind-reading tricks and knows that Karras smells something foul. The demon says, “It smells like sauerkraut, doesn’t it.” (Only our wonderful Sofia would know the exact words! 🙂
