Sof, I really like what you've done! I'm still really intrigued that your version of Chris looks like Bridget Fonda from Single White Female! Wouldn't Fonda be just the right age to play (well, re-play) the part of Chris? I haven't see her lately, so I'm sure she looks very different now.

Great, Justin! Thanks for sharing it with us … I have always been fascinated the “pickle” or “jalapeno” in Regan's mouth!  Laughing

Should read “Friedkin,” not “Blatty.” Had my mind elsewhere when typing … thanks for pointing out my typo.

WB cared a lot. They wanted that mystique and word-of-mouth about “that thing upstairs.” The whole concept that Dick Smith created was much than a monster. It was a great marketing tool that worked very effectively. On another note, Steven Spielberg guarded the sets during the filming of Close Encounters because he didn't want the press to publish how they worked or what they looked like. It was a success and so was his film, of course.

Let's see, I was the same age that Linda Blair was portraying in film! My dad (a non-Catholic) took me to see it, while my mother (Irish Catholic) refused to go based on that “word-of-mouth” thing I mentioned above. At the age of 12, the only things I remembered specifically from that viewing is the crucifix scene, projectile vomiting, “that thing upstairs” face, and the horrific voice coming from a sick little girl's mouth. My mother raised her children as Catholic, so I could very easily associate with some facets of the film.

Well, the Black Bikini worn (hopefully) and sign by Linda Blair could potentially bring his asking price of $2K.  Surprised

I was old enough to see this on the comic display way back then. It's awful that I couldn't buy it, but my parents ruled (although my dad took me to the film when I was a kid). Go figure.

Yes. You paid fair market value.

Jagged, you jogged my memory about the painting because WB had fits over anything except the levitation scene which aired often on talk shows and news programs. That was the only thing you could see … Regan's body in a side shot and no more. The face was the factor to the illusion. Today, WB wouldn't have a chance at keeping stills and even videos off the net.

It would be interesting … let's just start a rumor on here and see what happens! I'll start it since it's been so quiet on here lately. Hmmm … let me think …

HA! Incidentally, I incidentally noticed the word incidentally in The Exorcist when I was incidentally watching the film for about the fourth or fifth time. It just happened very incidentally.

Incidentally, I use the screen name Father Bowdern as he was incidentally involved in the real case that film was incidentally based on.

Incidentally, WPB likes to use the word “incidentally” in many of his works. If you think about it, both Lt. Kinderman and Karras use the exact same word in the original script:

    KARRAS
Incidentally I mention only in passing that I could tell the judge that it was a matter of confession.

    KINDERMAN
Incidentally, just a chance in a million, I know; but your daughter – you could possibly ask her if she saw Mr. Dennings in her room that night?

fraroc, I think you've answered your own question by fleshing it out here. I'm not sure what “of this generation” truly means in your eyes; e.g., prepubescent, pubescent, young adulthood 18+, early adulthood 21+. You seem to have a pretty good handle on this according to the sound effects you enjoy from TVYNS.

Steve and I were just lucky (okay, old enough) that we were around to get the visceral shock from the original version in theaters. The original film was the first time in cinematic history that any film in this league appeared on the silver screen from any country. To me,  TVYNS implores too much CGI that cheapens the original film too dramatically. Again, it’s just my opinion.

So why don’t you show the original and then TVYNS. If you have both on blu-ray, the viewing order makes perfect sense and your friends can make a true comparison for themselves.

Yeah, let's put a cameo of Cash singing “A Boy Named Sue” or “I Walk the Line.”  Laughing
