Participant“Tip of the iceberg? I am also a therapist, and about 5 years ago I had a male client who, now in his young 20's, was suffering panic attacks. His parents had put him through 10-13 separate exorcisms to drive out the “demons” that were inhabiting his body and making him a homosexual.”
Good luck on the class … it should certainly be interesting. I quoted a portin of your paragraph above because this type of belief system is what erodes the foundation of religion and why so many people are turning away from organized religion.
Obviously (although erased … thanks Captain) I wrote something that may be of interest to your class: offer some insights into the Anneliese Michel case on which “The Exorcism of Emily Rose” was very loosely based. You can find many audio tapes of the “actual possession” on YouTube and other sources. You can find resources quickly by Googling them.
Her case is one of the saddest because it too relates to your quote above in which religion overrides the wisdom of conventional medicine and psychiatry. Anneliese's epilepsy and your former client's homosexuality are a part of normal human conditions where religion has no value nor panacea.

ParticipantThanks, Cap … no big deal. Devil is acting up!Â

Anyway, here is the original image I posted (I added the event/date back in May).
Same artist? I only ask because of the original blue-colored glass eyes that ended up cat-like in the final product).
Great work.

ParticipantMy original post is now missing the image of the very last image posted here. I posted this back in May, 2011:

“Do you have a favorite “Regan Imitation” discovery? Share it if you do!
Below is probably one of the best I've seen. This is a sculpture from the Monsterpalooza show in Burbank, California in April, 2011.

ParticipantRyan,
Thanks for the update from Bill.
I know my question could ultimately end in, “I wouldn't change a thing.” However, I am curious if Blatty would entertain the question and offer some sort of insights that I am positive he's thought of over the decades. To me, it makes sense because Blatty is our Poe.
Thanks!

ParticipantYes, “silly” is the word. Just watching that snippet as Justin mentions is a form of torture for me. If Blairs voice had not been dubbed my the great McCambridge I believe the film would have floundered. Just saying it was incredible smart of Friedkin to lead the way for all other horror films (except Andie MacDowell having her voice dubbed by the incredible Glenn Close in Greystoke: The Legend Tarzan, Lord of the Apes).

ParticipantI agree with granville. Although I too felt the opening scene had some of the best direction and interesting aspects for a follow-up film, it soon fell short with a spiraling array of incomplete and jagged storytelling.
I still believe, however, if Morgan Creek let Blatty lead the film to its proper destiny, it could have had a greater potential.

ParticipantRyan,
Â
Yes … I do have a question for Bill:
Â
“If the film version of The Exorcist was revisited for a remake, would he prefer the original script he wrote over the one that Friedkin requested for revision that we see as the original film.”
Â
Wording can be changed … I'm tired.

Thanks,

ParticipantThanks, Cap! Now, I hope this dispells all those thoughts that I was intentionally posting without replying! (Although, I could start a rumor that I'm having an affair with Angelina Jolie.)

ParticipantHave a heart (
) … the follow-up films had no cognitive meaning other than being cash-ins on the box-office success of the one and only film, The Exorcist. Had Morgan Creek stayed out of Blatty's way, his true second film, Legion, could have had some potential.Father Bowdern

When I opened an email from Justin with this news I thought I was going to faint…. What a dream to me it'll be to read new dialogue and prose.
Sof, just don't be disappointed if that new dialogue and prose disjoints the characters and changes the pace of this masterpiece.

ParticipantI never saw this promo. I have written so many times on here about Annaliese Michel and this tragic event perpetrated by her own family and reinforced by the church and the medical community. The combination of the family’s religion and the diocese’s power literally eliminated the necessary medical treatment she so desperately needed.
If you ever have time, it is worth some research about how religion and the power of suggestion can influence a mentally ill individual and drive them to their death as witnesses turns their blind eyes to the reality that unfolded before them.
