ParticipantThere wasn't a person in the audience that wasn't laughing their ass off at the old lady crawling on the ceiling. I can remember when this film was first promoted in theaters as Legion. It wasn't good enough for Morgan Creek execs who demolished Blatty's novel-to-film attempt, just the same as Morgan Creek did to the two versions of the prequels. As a franchise, Morgan Creek needs to give it up.

Participantgranville, thanks for sharing this!

Standouts to me:
Why did you add the extra scene?
“[ … ] At one point in our conversation I burst out with indignation about how so many “dense†filmgoers thought the demon took Karras out the window, making the ending seem to be a “downer.†There was a brief silence, and then – God bless his brave and honest soul! – Frank said quietly, “Bill, that’s what I thought happened, too! [ … ]â€
Why do you think the story of “The Exorcist,” in its many forms, has resonated so much for so many people?
“[ … ] But I suspect that there might have been a somewhat less luminous basis for the power of The Exorcist’s argument for faith, which was the widespread and apparently rampant perception that the novel was based on a true story, the so-called “1949 case†of demonic possession of a young boy in Cottage City, Maryland. That perception was – and is – totally false. While writing the novel, the only facts that I had at hand were the classic symptoms of possession that had somehow remained an identical constant in every culture and in every part of the world going back to ancient Egyptian times.
“The 1949 case was the novel’s inspiration, the jump-starting electrical jolt being the last line of my first letter from the exorcist in that case, the Jesuit priest Fr. William Bowdern. After informing me that he was bound by the boy’s family to total confidentiality, he ended: “I can tell you this. The case I was involved in was the real thing. I had no doubt about it then and I have no doubt about it now.â€
The words charged me with the confidence to write about possession with the heat of conviction.”
[Blatty's “perception” here is quite interesting. If I remember correctly, Blatty and Friedkin both promoted the film as “based on a true story,” without the need for a “warranty of merchantability.” While “the 1949 case was the novel's inspiration,” Blatty is finally confirming that he did not know the details of the now-infamous diary of Ronald Hunkler a.k.a. “R” a.k.a. “Robbie,” etc. Bottom line, Blatty is truly a writing genious. Perhaps my quick read is necessary for a final review.]

ParticipantYou're welcome. Mine post is definitely from the film script.
Again, we have a real “exorcist” on here regarding the novel. Her name is Sofia and she has it memorized.
Sof? I'd like to know too because it is an interesting question.

ParticipantHi and Welcome!
I will give this a stab, but I’m sure we have better experts on this website such as Ryan regarding WPB’s address and Sofia for the novel. Here’s what I found and what I believe to be true:
Question 1:
Removed by Administrator
Question 2:
Burke Voice via Regan’s Body:
“Do you know what she did, your cunting daughter?”Are you thinking that Burke is speaking throughout the entire crucifix masturbation scene? If so, that voice is Mercedes McCambridge as the male voice/demon with the lines from the script that follows (notice it is not from the novel, but the script). Note that McCambridge as both the male voice and demon often crosses the lines of interpretation as to whether it is a uniquely different voice in the beginning that transitions):
REGAN
Please! No!MALE VOICE
Do it!REGAN
Please no!MALE VOICE
You bitch! Do it! Do it!Chris races up the stairs and runs to Regan’s room.
REGAN
No! Please! No!Chris opens the door and sees objects rapdly flying around the
room. We hear a last gasp scream from Regan untill Chris turns to
Regan and covers her mouth with horror.REGAN/DEMON
Let Jesus fuck you!Regan has the crucifix gripped in her hand and is plunging it
into her bloodied vagina. There are fresh cuts all over her face,
streaming with blood.REGAN/DEMON
Let Jesus fuck you! Let him fuck you!!!Chris runs over to Regan and tries to pry the crucifix from her
hand. They struggle for the crucifix. Regan then grabs Chris’
head and pushes it into her bloodied crotch.REGAN/DEMON
Lick me! Lick me!Chris’ face emerges covered with Regan’s blood. Regan slaps her
mother and sends her flying to the floor. Chris screams in pain.
Sharon and Willie race up the stairs.SHARON
Chris? The door closes by itself being held shut by a chair. They both
bag on the door to help her. Chris looks up to see that Regan’s
wardrobe is moving toward her. Chris scurries out of the way. We
turn back to Regan who is sitting with her back to us, but she
has spun her head in a 180-degree angle, facing backward (Chris).
Chris looks up at her.REGAN/BURKE
Do you know what she did, your cunting daughter?Chris turns away and screams, bursting into tears.
Let us know what your project is about that is so urgent that it requires WPB address and your second question. Just curious.

ParticipantI agree that the seller wants too much. There are some issues that make me pause in purchasing this and that includes what Ghetto said about the polaroids vs. developing B&W 8×10 and 3×5 photos. These are not continuity shots. In fact, most are stills from the BTS documentaries (FOG and BR) and also include snapshots from the Secrets of Dick Smith and Monster Magic featuring Smith.
The sellers is also indicating that, “Many have Warner Bros. logo and captions.” I would imagine that this only referencing the lobby cards that have been reproduced for box sets of the past. The seller makes no indication that these are genuine instead of just pics taken from a paused DVD/BR.17

Another angle would be that Regan is fully aware of what's happening to her and to her body and is being tortured in a psychological way as well as physically.
Observations:
1. It is Regan – Regan is inhabiting or “harboring inside” her own body, yet is able to break free of the grip of the demon just long enough to draw the physical symbol backward from inside her body which Sharon sees and calls Karras to view.
2. It is the demon – It is yet another trick to set up Karras who will in turn require the assistant of his arch nemesis, Father Merrin. Let the battle begin.
3. It is one of the other demons – In the attempt to draw attention to their anguish, one of the other demons inhabiting Regan is pleading for help to be freed from this world through exorcism.
4. Blatty shows his skills in making the reader think of a variety of opinions … none of which the author intentionally and intelligently answers. You are reading a novel by a living Edgar Allen Poe legend.1

Paz, I have seen that one. The molds are from the originals that I bought in 1990s. You can still find them on eBay I believe every once in a while. They are not painted like this artist did (I believe it's the same one that I posted and then the Cap posted on here). The artist is incredibly good at what he does.

What do you think of my edited Linda looking like Regan of the novel, FB? 😉 If she looked anything like this, then she would have fit the role perfectly.
Will you mail the jeans to me? 😀

Â
Sof,
How the heck did you edit that? It's great! It looks like Regan with braces and all (something that not a lot of film viewers know about).
Yes, I will mail you the jeans as long as you put a picture right here on the site! 🙂
