ParticipantWe wouldn’t have a story without both the Exorcist and the priest. After all, the demon was just getting revenge on Merrin after the battle in Iraq (which he obviously won) and Karras was an ideal target for getting Merrin into the exorcism. Karras was just a pawn in this game of chess. The checkmate was Merrin.

ParticipantI saw the original when it was released three times. I saw the first and all subsequent airings on national television (I believe it was on CBS). I owned the first Beta copy. I owned the first VHS copy. I owned the first LP-sized laser disc (I’m that old and if you don’t know what that is, you’ll have to look it up on Google). And, of course, I own all of the DVD versions. Name a version, and I will guarantee to you that I’ve seen it. And, this bullshit with claiming that Burke’s death scene was filmed is a crock of shit and I don’t care what country you watched it in … it does not exist! Period. I’ll ask Mark Kermode if anyone wants a “real” answer. But, folks it just didn’t take place.

ParticipantM.I.K.E., I agree with you about WB. Perhaps they will release a PSP version and a Blu-Ray version. The Exorcist: The PSP Version You’ve Never Seen BEFORE. The Exorcist: The Blu-Ray Version You’ve Never Seen AGAIN! 🙂

ParticipantI have always thought the same thing about the woman in the carriage … just another foreboding of eerie things to come.

ParticipantCould it be possible that Slam234’s idea that Karl is speaking in Swiss??? I’m sure that the direct translation from the novel that Justin provided is right, but it definitely changed in the movie … “Oh, Jesus,” missing; “I’m very sorry, madame, but you see, no rats,” changed from the novel. So, maybe Karl is speaking in Swiss although it may not make sense when speaking to Chris unless he had been standing on the attic stairs and the candle burst scared him too. Also, it may be plausible because Friedkin never added subtitles to the Latin conversation between the demon and Karras in the film so audiences could understand the exchange of words.

ParticipantI think Kinderman’s comment about Mineo was a compliment at the time and a, “Let me break through your stone-faced facade, so you will answer my questions.” I never took the remark as ill-willed toward Karras. The scene just doesn’t work that way for me.

ParticipantOkay, dumb question … what on Earth will a HD version of gives us terms of quality? Wouldn’t we still be seeing a film shot on a 70mm film with old equipment? The DVD restoration removing the blotches and threads is great. But, what happens when you convert a DVD to HD?
Help … don’t know.

ParticipantThe Saint Christopher medallion is different from the one that Merrin found at the dig in Innevi, Iraq. The medallion is seen in three specific spots in the film: Northern Iraq, Karras’ dream sequence, and the final exorcism scene when Regan pulls it from Karras’ neck. I may have missed one or confused the medallion (yet I think they are all the same being that of Saint Christopher). I think it’s a wonderful way that Blatty and Friedkin reached out to us in a religious metaphoric-type way throughout the movie … plus it was another eerie thing to add to the pulse of the movie. I always think of the medallion as having a writer’s true beginning (discovery in Iraq), middle (forthcoming of evil in Karras’ dream sequence), and ending (the demon needing to rid Karras of anything holy before entering his body).
Just thoughts … anybody else?

ParticipantJustin … Hooray! You are incredible at finding this and letting us in on the “secret!” I see the wires so clearly and I’m little embarrassed that I didn’t notice them before. I guess you’re right Justin, I’ll be looking for the wires every time I see the film again and again. 🙂 Congrats and keep up the good work!

ParticipantCaptain: I agree. I refuse to comment to the likes of SLAM234 any more because it is too personal. Now, let’s all enjoy your website and thanks for bringing it to us! 🙂

ParticipantIn the second image, isn’t “the wire” really the corner of wall? If you look at the picture as a whole, the top part you have circled is parallel with the bottom portion of the wall. In the first picture (even at the highest resolution), I could say, “Yes, I ‘think’ I see the wire.” But, I really don’t. I know you tried to point them out, but I can’t see the “man in the moon” either … never could. 🙂

ParticipantSLAM23: Are you listening to madaztec2’s last comment?

Participant“There is nothing,” makes sense because lunuso knows the book like the back of his/her hand! THANKS! I’ll listen more carefully next time. (You’d think Blatty could have told me that!). 😉

ParticipantVery cool thought colombiancannon. I’ll view from that angle next time.
