Would you choose travel healthcare again if you were starting over?

I’ve been thinking a lot about whether travel healthcare is something I’d want to do for several years or just for a few contracts. The flexibility and chance to work in different places sound great, but constantly adjusting to new facilities and moving every few months also seems exhausting.

For those who have been doing this for a while, if you could start your career over again, would you still choose travel healthcare? What would you do differently?

I would choose it again, but I’d approach my first few contracts differently. I used to focus mostly on pay and location, while now I pay much more attention to the facility, schedule, housing costs, and recruiter support.

One resource I’d suggest for allied health professionals is https://tlcallied.com/. They have travel opportunities across different locations and help with things like licensing, credentialing, and housing. Having that kind of support matters when you’re moving between assignments.

Travel isn’t perfect, but for me the flexibility, new experiences, and professional growth have been worth it.

I’d probably choose it again too, but maybe not back-to-back contracts all year. After a while, constantly learning a new workplace and meeting a new team can get tiring.

Taking a few weeks off between assignments made a big difference for me. I think travel healthcare works best when you use the flexibility instead of feeling like you always need to have the next contract lined up immediately.
