ParticipantI was so happy to find this forum….a group of people as obsessed with this stunning film as I am.
Sofia's excellent Sims Exorcist miniseries, based on the novelization, inspired me to do my own little video tribute, using iClone 4.2 PRO. I did this in a day. I really lucked out with the house set, as it had precisely the stairwell I needed. Regan's room, I constructed on my own, adding in just a few props. Combining the two together really made for an elaborate setup with which to shoot my video.
Â
I tried to match some of the original shots from the film, while I took liberties with a couple of others. I think the end result turned out really good, if I may humbly say so. I got chills just working on it. I hope you find it as fun to watch as it was for me to make it.
Â
And yeah….that's my voice for the narrative. (I deepened it up like that movie guy.)

ParticipantOH…MY..Goddddddd! I am so speechless, Steve!! This was beyond incredible!!! You created such an eerie and scary atmosphere, it's just perfect! I love it so much! Your voice is wonderful as well!
Please, you've got to help me with my Exorcist Sims!! When I get to the possession parts there is… omg, I wish I had  iClone 4.2 PRO!

ParticipantMost kind, everyone. Thank you so much.
Sofia, thank you for the very kind words.  I wish I knew more about The Sims (I've been debating getting the Sims 3 game). iClone, as you can see, allows me a great deal of freedom. I could've done a lot of the character animations even better, but I wanted to get this out quickly. Believe me, a lot of room for improvement on my part. Â
Â
And If I can, I shall be happy to help with your project. You've done an excellent job covering scenes that were not in the movie, but in the novel….another sort of director's cut, if you will.
Hammer, I was really fortunate when I found the “living room” set from iClone's Backstage content store.  The set up for it was too perfect….especially the stair case. I managed to build Regan's bedroom and surrounding areas in just about three hours.  Certain other things were also premade the bed (although I created the bed posts), the books and bookshelf, the dresser drawers and the big chair in Rags' room were all stuff I could download from the Backstage store.
As for the characters, I used the best possible photographs I could find of the original actors, and placed them on the faces of the virtual charactters. I had to design the costumes myself.  Pazuzu was a still shot of the original sculpture from the movie, superimposed onto a flat plane.
Â
And of course, we all know where I got the audio and sound effects.
Â
Thank you again, everyone. I kept all the sets I built, just in case I decide to do another.

ParticipantI wonder if it is possible to realise the spiderwalk scene like it was in the novel … I mean with Regan walking like a spider for the whole scene. In the first version they almost did it, but then Regan turns her body walking like a baby … probably because it was impossible to do it right without a stunt.

ParticipantI plan to repurchase the novel, and do that version, Hammer. 🙂

ParticipantThat would be great. It is much more interesting in the novel… today it would be possible to realize it, but at the time they should have found a extrem contorsionist to make it right (the forehead should touch the heels).

ParticipantThat's right! I forgot about that! 🙂

ParticipantBtw, Sofia, iClone is only about 150-200 dollars, and is really simple to learn.  You can also get a demo version of iClone (which lacks a few capabilities of the full version but it still does a VERY impressive job.)
Â
I got started in iClone when it came as demo software with Magix Movie Edit Pro 16.  Now that MMEP 17 is out, you can get the current demo version of iClone with it.Â

ParticipantSteve, can you create your own animations for the sims 2 and add them to the game? Is it possible by using iClone?
Gosh, I have no idea of what I'm talking about…lol.

Can you make your 3D Regan a little girl instead of a grown up woman? 🙂

ParticipantOH- and, how did you make her levitate?? I wish that was possible with The Sims game!

ParticipantLemme try to tackle your questions one at a time here, Sofia.
Â
SOFIA Q:Â Â
Steve, can you create your own animations for the sims 2 and add them to the game? Is it possible by using iClone?
Â
A:  I don't know if iClone is cross compatible with the Sims games. I never really monkeyed with the Sims, so I cannot speak to that experience.
SOFIA Q:
Can you make your 3D Regan a little girl instead of a grown up woman?
Â
A:Well, when I used the face of Linda Blair on the character model, it was of Regan at the appropriate age in the film. Unfortunately, cherub-like faces don't always translate well in iClone.  I'll try to see if I can make her a look even younger in my next project, but I am kinda partial to the Linda Blair Regan. I did reduce her size to where she might roughly be around 5 ft tall, to make her smaller than her mom and the priests.
Â
SOFIA Q:
OH- and, how did you make her levitate?? I wish that was possible with The Sims game!
Â
A: Because she was a manipulatable object in iClone, I can just make her rise on the Z axis at will.  Keyframing, that kind of thing. Sims is a game where you just have characters interact….so it's not really an animation control scenario.  iClone is an animation program, so you can make your characters and objects do pretty much whatever you want.
I even tried to get the “Captain Howdy” face to appear the very first time you see the demonic Regan in my video, but it didn't come through quite like I'd hoped…but, I have other options available the next time I attempt that.

ParticipantNow if I had a straight on image of Sachi MacClaine's face at around say 10-12 years old, IÂ could even create an animated Regan character from THAT. :)Â I'm sure I could probably find such images on Google, and make an animated Shirley and Sachi MacClaine as Chris and Regan MacNeil. 🙂
