I do believe that a scene like that would've really endeared folks even more to Chris and Rags than they already were.  Regan, so innocent, sweet, and beautiful, and Chris, rather devout in her atheism, but not so much that she would force her daughter to make the same choice.

I think a scene like that (the Washington trip scene, where Chris gives Regan the answer about “God getting lonely for us after a while”) was just a part of her actually looking for something to truly believe in, above and beyond herself…and not realizing that very soon, she would get her wish…despite the horror she'd have to endure to get it.

“I just have to get really convincing female voices. “

Oh , my! But you live in America! It's easier for you to find a woman and child to say Chris & Rags lines. 😀

You know that shot in Arlington Cemetery (sims) when they're making fun of each others' freckles? I used Marg Helgenberger &   Taylor Fry's voices for it. They played a mother and daughter in the movie, Death Dreams (1991) and they also had that kind of unusual deep bond; thinking the same things the other is thinking without putting into words.. Do you know anyone who sounds like them?

If this scene had been kept in the movie, it would have made the film heart wrenching. There were moments in the novel that I remember were very emotional. This was one of those scenes. The other that I remember was near the end when Chris was reading a card that Regan had given her with the phrase, “…all the prettiest things” while the mayhem was going on upstairs.Chris was crying inconsolably as if Regan were on her deathbed.

Yes, it was a poem for Mother's Day:

    If instead of just clay

I could take all the prettiest things,

    Like a rainbow…

Or clouds, or the way a bird sings,

Maybe then, Mother dearest, if I put them all together,

I could really make a sculpture of you!

That was a nice usage of Marg's and Taylor's voices in that scene.  I had wondered where that had come from.  Well done. 🙂

Well folks, here it is…my first excerpt from a novel (aside from my Battlestar Galactica adaptation of one of my own fanfictions).

This scene was adapted from William Peter Blatty's “The Exorcist” novel.  One certainly gains a new understanding of the differences and needs between a novel and an adapted screenplay.

This scene as shot in the movie was only two to three minutes long.   The scene I did, as excerpted from the novel runs close to 10 minutes.

I had to take a few creative liberties when I realized that there was a  couple of things I failed to add, because I failed to read the narrative text more closely…however, I think they are minor, overlookable things.  Overall, I think the effect comes across alright.  I added in some sound effects from the movie to give the scene just a little more ambience (and for technical reasons.)   I did both the voices of Father Damien Karras and the demon Pazuzu, and Burke Dennings.

This took me a couple of days to put together…I had to rebuild the sets after my file (which I used to create my tribute trailer) got corrupted.   I just completed final mixdown at 7:30AM 24 NOV. 2010.

As always, I hope you'll enjoy this and have as much fun with it as I had putting it together.  🙂

Sorry for the long silence, but my mother has died…

Steve and Sophia: I really love your works and hope to see something more very soon. Steve you are also pretty talented in acting … For sure Someone would swear you did much better than Linda.

First, my most sincere condolences on your loss, hammer.  Losing a parent is one of the hardest things to endure.   As a kid, and even as an adult, somehow we always have some sense of invincibility and immortality when it comes to our mothers and fathers…and when the time comes to pass, it hits us harder than we can possibly imagine.  Having lost my mom some time back, I hope that you find your peace soon.

Thank you for the kind words, hammer. :)

LOL!  I don't know that I did a better job than Linda.  Although I took as much direction as I could from the novel, I did do a couple of minor embellishments, but nothing too far from the path. :)  It was fun doing the voice acting….but I confess, I could not quite cop Jason Miller's New York accent for Fr. Karras, so I just went with my natural speaking voice.   As for the demon, I naturally lowered my voice, and made it gravelly…but I still don't think I did justice to the superb job as performed by Mercedes McCambridge. 🙂

My proudest moments in this video were animating the tape recorder (another one of the props I had to build for the video), and having Karras make the holy cross pattern when sprinkling Regan/the demon with holy water.

Steve, you are right… last year has been very hard… the chemo, the hopes, the defeat, the pain… But my family and I did very well to give her the best assistance at home till the end.

I am really amazed about yours and Sophia’s details in the videos. It’s a pity I don’t have the time to do some scenes myself, but I really hope to see the spiderwalk soon.

    Thank you, hammer.

I plan to do the spiderwalk scene, but unlike my previous effort, I will probably forgo dialogue on that scene, and just cut to the chase….but ya' never know. 🙂

Absolutely! I couldn't believe when I saw that tape recorder! I yelled, ''how did he do it??!'' 🙂
