I can kind of see Charlize as being Chris in the movie Trapped. I love that movie! She and Dakota Fanning played mother & daughter and they were wonderful together. This scene was heartbreaking, I cry everytime I watch it. it's even similar to an excerpt of the novel when Regan is crying out for Chris (before the hypnotic procedure). Chris runs to the bed and comforts her, hugs her, and then starts crying herself. So, if you dye Charlize hair red and put freckles on her face I'll be happy to see her as Chris 😀

Yeah, I think Chloe is probably around 13 or 14 now.   It's too bad a remake wasn't done around the time when Dakota fanning was of a more appropriate age.   She probably could've pulled off the role….given her other roles where she plays dark or mysterious.  Dakota has played brunettes before….and I don't know if she ever played a redhead.

 

Abigail Breslin (Zombieland) would probably have been a good one too…but she's probably a bit old to play Regan at this time.

 

I'm trying to think of some thirty-something actresses of late (with red hair) that might be good to pull off the role of Chris.  Don't know if I could see Charlize as a redhead.   A brunette, maybe…but I don't know about a redhead. 

 

Hey!  Wait!   I know this chick would do a good job…and she at least WAS a redhead….Alyson Hannigan (Willow from the Buffy the Vampire Slayer series). :)   She's got the acting chops for it, and she's in her thirties by now I believe.

I know Alyson Hannigan since I was about 11 years old, she's a brunette lolllll. She played Kim Basinger's stepdaughter in My Stepmother is an Alien, I used to watch that movie all the time. ;=) I can't in any way see Alyson as Chris.

The only time I've seen Sachi MacLaine in an acting role was in an episode of Star Trek:The Next Generation but she was already an adult by then and she was sporting alien make up. Yes she can act but I have know idea if she could have played Reagan as a child.

Sachi has been a stage actress since she was a little girl, she always got the lead role in plays. In 1965 she played Heidi on stage and that ran for a few performances. Problem is that Shirley turned down the role of Chris so why would she allow her daughter to play Regan at the time? lol  

No offense to Linda but Sachi's acting talent puts Linda's acting (as an adult) down to shame.

sorry for raising a somewhat dead topic. I know that Sof already knows this, but I think another actor to play Karras would be Hugh Jackman. Merrin could DEFINETLY be played by Sir Anthony Hopkins or Clint Eastwood. Hell, Max von SYDOW could still do it even though he is now in his late 70s! But im aiming more at Clint Eastwood being Merrin.

 

And…the voice of the Devil…Im guessing if the Devil should have that gravelly voice, instead of that cheesy deepened Darth Vader voice. Im guessing that they guy who voiced Wolverine for the 90s cartoon could do the voice for “Posessed Regan”

They ARE Chris and Regan, it's not just my idea! Blatty based Chris and 'normal' Regan of the novel on Shirley & Sachi,  their personal life, just everything! Even Shirley's British Director friend J.Lee Thompson was the model for Chris' British Director friend, Burke Dennings!

And also, clint eastwood did marvelous in Gran Torino, considering his advance age! (matter of fact he's the same age as Max von Sydow) So, him as Merrin would be great!
