Every freelancing guide I find just piles on more and more stuff to worry about. Skills, portfolio, rates, contracts, taxes, payments from abroad. It never ends. Makes it feel like you need to be an expert in everything before you even talk to your first client. For someone who just wants to dive in and figure things out along the way, what is the absolute minimum I need to sort out first? Curious how others handled this without getting overwhelmed right at the start.

You are right that most guides overload you with information. The truth is you do not need all of that to start. The absolute minimum is one skill you can deliver and a willingness to reach out to people. Everything else can be figured out later. A helpful breakdown on PinoyFreelance explained that many successful freelancers started with just a few small paid tasks and no contracts at all. They learned about taxes and invoices only when the money started coming regularly. Focus on getting that first client and doing good work. The rest will come naturally as you grow. No need to be an expert in everything before you begin. Just start small and learn along the way like everyone else.
