Tough choice, i know.

Exorcist 2 had great acting, Linda Blair did very good in this film! but one problem, it was marred by an absolutley HORRIBLE storyline. I mean, once you watch it, you will be thinking one thing, "I didnt know Disney made horror films!" I mean this was the film where we get the full identity of the demon Pazuzu. He doesnt even look that threating in The Heretic! I mean It was better in the FIRST film where we could assume that it was Lucifer himself that Possessed regan, I mean It kinda spoils the effect that the first film had! now that we know that it was just some Islamic lesser Demon that possessed Regan.

The Beginning, DONT GET ME STARTED!!! I mean the ONLY redeeming value of this film was the special effects and storyline. Other than that, especially twoards the end. The movie began to become a rip off of the first movie!!! I mean when we found out that Sarah was the possessed one, I knew right away this was going to be very Regan McNeil-esque. and It was a horrible rip off of her! But the only thing that I liked in the movie was the archetecture of the aincent church, just to find it to be desicrated by Satanists.

so what do you think?

TWO WAYS TO MAKE A POTENTIAL EXORCIST REMAKE SUCSESSFUL

Hugh Jackman=Father Damien Karras S.J

Clint Eastwood=Father Lancaster Merrin

"Exorcist II: The Heretic" has a certain fascination, like a cobra rising from a basket. You are guided along by a sure directorial hand through beautifully articulated environments. It's a prestigious, ornate gift-wrapped box with absolutely nothing inside. It is a majestic Titanic of a horror film breaking apart & sinking in a sea of Hollywood excess. In a way, I adore it. "Exorcist: The Beginning" is a vulgar bit of work. The climactic exorcism is undeniably energetic but with no real emotional payoff. Anyone who has seen the more thoughtful "Dominion: Prequel to The Exorcist" will likely dismiss "Exorcist: The Beginning" as a crass attempt to get moviegoers to shell out 100 million on opening weekend.

kokumo, you are right on target with your analysis of both films! I especially find this summary sentence regarding EII as pure perfection: "It's a prestigious, ornate gift-wrapped box with absolutely nothing inside."

We may ask what is relevant, but anything beyond that is dangerous.

I also agree with Kokumo.   Dominion was a far superior movie to Exorcist The Beginning.

Exorcist II had great potential, but yeah, for the most part might as well have been Disney's first R rated movie.   And the voice of Pazuzu was so diminished in threat….athough, as a kid, you couldn't tell me different….that face of Regan's still scared the hell out of me.   But after I conquered the original Exorcist,, nothing fazes me. :)

LOL! I still have the original sticker in a frame that reads, "Nothing Scares Me. I've Seen The Exorcist."

I loved the way Exorcist the Beginning started off; the scene with the trembling priest praying and walking through what seemed to be an endless sea of dead and partially dead bodies.  There are also signs of sacrifice and blasphemy; good and evil.  The ending was done well too and provided a decent bridge to current day Merrin

I would love to see someone combine the story-lines from Exorcist the Beginning and Dominion:

Remove the beginning and end of Exorcist Dominion and replace it with Exorcist the Beginning

Let's take out the possesed lady and keep the possesed boy idea

Keep the possessed boy from Exorcist the Beginning and discard the man-child from Exorcist Dominion

Exorcist II – The Heretic isn't bad as a stand-alone movie.  As a sequeal it is nowhere near as bad as Highlander II or Mortal Kombat II (Annihilation)

My apologies, my friends, for being away.   I have been lurking, but I have also been busy with a lot of music here in New Orleans.  Will try to  be more participatory asap. :)

Good, Steve … it seems like the site has been very quiet lately.
