ParticipantWell stated. I agree very much. [sermon]I would just kindly argue, however, that it is God, not WPB, who ought to be hailed or exalted.
LUKE 18:18-19 says: 18A certain ruler asked him, “Good teacher, what must I do to inherit life?”
19″Why do you call me good?” Jesus answered. “No one is good – except God alone.”
Meanwhile, WPB, like us all, has been placed on this planet for general and specific reasons known and unknown, by the One above. And one of these purposes — if not the primary one — clearly, is being a light for God, radiating outward to millions, if not billions. That said, I’d say he’s done and continues to fulfill that calling. And for that, he should be admired as an example. And from a creativity point-of-view, praised; but we must remember, God gives and takes away — he blessed Blatty with so much; Blatty, as anyone else, didn’t truly find his way or his current life and history on this planet by himself; God was there there whole time, through thick and through thin; available and interested in his beloved creation, for which Blatty is a member. Granted, one with considerably more direct influence than you or I. And that’s okay, we each have our own multitude of blessings. Praise God.[/sermon] 🙂

ParticipantHey, good lip-reading there, Blizzi!

Participant…Fiction whose sum total from the first novel and movie differ in key ways (primarily in characterization) to the “true” (in most respects)sequel novel and film. Blatty changes his mind on things, making ANYTHING possible. And while confusing and a tad annoying to those looking for consistancy, it manages to deliver so — to be frank — we forgive these issues or at least disregard. 🙂

ParticipantHey, look, it’s Gary Oldman’s Dracula in BRAM STOKER’S DRACULA as he climbs up the side of the castle wall, howling in the night!
Francis Ford Coppola sure knows what to steal from! He even gave his wallcrawler old lady hair buns! 😛
Sorry for the detour, now back to the point… Nice, rare pics. THANKS, as always! 😀

ParticipantYes. Without a doubt, great read. Granny, ASSEMBLE A BOOK of essays or a single piece of writing; 4 pages, 40 pages, 400 pages — you will have an audience. And/or, what would be awesome is if you’re one of my co-essayists on Benjamin Szumskyj’s book of essays shining light on Blatty’s works. Please say yes to one or both of the above; that would make my day. 😀

ParticipantIf tough, elderly Scott’s Kinderman managed to rush to the Williamson’s Morning’s aid, putting himself if harm’s way, I could see that happening. Frankly, and even counting his rush back home to save his daughter and family from Nurse X, he doesn’t do much in the way of serving and protecting the public. He spends most of his time, snooping around and asking questions, and barking at colleagues. 😐

ParticipantYeah, well, your writing skills and style are good as — if not better than — my own, Granny, so I frankly think it a crime if I neglected to push this on you while there’s still time, potentially! 🙂
But the gist is right here, taken from Ben’s post (dated 11-22-2006) elsewhere in this very forum (it’s CURRENTLY practically the deadline, so PLEASE still e-mail him, maybe see if you can recycle or modify an essay you have collecting dust which you can properly MLA-cite — maybe even one of your many great posts refashioned and developed into essay format — or do a new essay very soon. In any case, it’s 5000-7000 words — you can do it! E-mail him about what topic(s) that has not been taken; see what’s potentially available — it’s fairly open, subjectwise — some are doing studies, comparisons, biography, literary critiques on individual works, and in my case a little of all of the above for DEMONS FIVE, EXORCISTS NOTHING. But I’m fairly certain there’s ROOM (that hasn’t changed in MONTHS since my getting onboard) for another essay, so your challenge will be turning it in sooner than later (I’ve been through two drafts, and mine’s yet to be formally accepted — but it ought to! 🙂 — hence my hope for your getting yours locked in) — for the deadline’s supposed to be any day, really. No pressure, of course, but boy would it be SPLENDID to have your critical eye leant to this book — e-mail Ben NOW!!!! Good luck, bro! -M
“Friends,
Long time reader, first time poster, new to message boards, pleased to meet you!
I am writing you all, as I would like to know whether there are any writers here that would be interested in producing an essay on an aspect of William Peter Blatty’s fiction (not the adaptations, but the texts themselves)? I ask, as the other day, I received a contract from an academic publishing house for me to edit a volume of literary criticism on William Peter Blatty. I’d like the study to encompass all his fiction, from “The Exorcist†and “Legionâ€, to “Elsewhere†and even his comedies. I will be able to pay the essayists and the deadline is mid-next year.
If you’re interested, e-mail me off-list at khraftstar@yahoo.com
Thanks again and look forward to chatting with you through the board!
Cheers & God Bless
Benjamin Szumskyj”
Ps. It’s the first-of-its-kind book of essays on the man’s works. Go for it, bro! This is your chance! 😀

ParticipantThanks, Justy; I greatly appreciate it, but I actually require a print source, non-internet. It’s probably from one of a number of 1989 or 1990 mags; the John Carpenter mention is said in passing, but that’s what I’m looking for. I have a backup plan if I can’t find this, but it’s such a cool footnote of history, it would fit nicely with what I’ve been cooking up.
Cheers!

ParticipantGranny, or maybe just see if you can write an introduction — which would presumably be less than 5000 words — assuming there is one and no one’s assigned to it yet. Just a thought I had. Keep me posted. CHEERS! 😀

ParticipantNo worries, Granny. Incidentally, everyone else — you’re each invited to e-mail Ben, if you’re interested in contributing an essay. You’re welcome to e-mail him; the rest is up to Ben. E-mailing him is no guarentee of anything, only a chance to see what the deal is this late in the game; again the deadline’s technically already passed, but… if you think you have what it takes, e-mail him! It can’t hurt.
Cheers!
