Yes. What would it take, Hatty? 🙂

Happy and thrilled that you listened to your creative heart and put these deleted scenes back in. 😉

    Sweet, Hatty! Congrats!

Now then, how might it be legally distributed to interested parties? 😀

What do we have to do to see this much-anticipated work?

    Excited, to say the least.

Boorman’s a piece of work, as is said piece of work. Incidentally, E:TB’s chock full of throwaway character-props. Renny Harlin must have been inspired by… the master. 😛

Oh yeah, and EKM states a great case in favor of the redemption of the film, but, his optimism and opinionating, compelling as they genuinely are, just aren’t powerful enough to make me enjoy or even appreciate the film enough to give the film another chance; Lord knows I try, but, the higher expectations, having read EKM’s argument, aren’t easily met when I try to re-view it.

Ironically, E:TB has more merit; it at least immitates — paley — Dominion, its originator. The same cannot be said for The Heretic with regard to the film it was theoretically based on, The Exorcist. The prequels share the same cinemtographer, same basic music and sets, same star and some actors… ooh, and same bad hyenas! The Heretic only has three of the original actors, and each aren’t handled as well (not that E:TB’s handling of return characters/actors is much better), to say the least. Plus it chose locusts over hyenas… LOCUSTS!
Locusting! 😮 Sorry, bad, bad pun. 😛

I think that covers it. 🙂

I could see how if Karras were the sole human target that he’d be elevated above Merrin as being the title character, THE Exorcist. But since he is not — others in the Georgetown house/community are amongst those targeted — I just don’t understand how Blatty in more recent years is saying Karras is such; I think Blatty’s free to change his mind or opinion on such key details of past works (look how much LEGION, book or film, breaks the rules), but that’s just it: he’s changing things on us. YET: The work, The Exorcist novel and/or film were immortalized they day they were released, and were written by a younger, different writer than whom said writer, Blatty, has become and is today. In a sense, I guess, he’s not talking sense, no offense to the man(!); he just has a different interpretation than he once did.

Karras was a Ghostbuster-in-training, as it regards his exorcism credentials; he was a lapsing Catholic and priest and he had to get into some heavyduty spiritual warfare, and the hostage he sought to rescue was a little girl; the stakes were high, and he couldn’t do it alone, noble as it is that he offered to. Merrin, however, WAS an exorcist. The novel/film are not titled “The Junior Exorcist”, you know? I dunno. I’ll let Blatty say or think whatever he wants, but he’s not gonna win this argument. 😛

Merrin deserves better, because that’s the kind of character the 1971 Blatty crafted the character, how he wrote him. To believe Karras to be the title character neutralizes a lot of the mystery and enigma surrounding and infused within the character of Father Merrin, an exorcist with extensive experience and who remains in conflict for DECADES with a genuine Satanic force.

Yes, I am close-minded. 😛 Sorry, Mr. Blatty. I can forgive the strange changes you made in Legion novel and film, but Karras trumping Merrin for the title character slot of the original Exorcist novel and film, I’d sooner appreciate The Heretic than entertain the idea. Again, no offense…! 😐

    Respectfully,

Ps. That line, “This time you’re going to lose.” WOULD be great if added back in. I think it might be feasable to edit in… have it playing over footage not picturing the possessed Regan — when the camera is pointed elsewhere — so they don’t have to mess with dubbing or CGI-ing in a few seconds of Regan for such a purpose.

Fine assessment of the film, Granny.

Gee, so BAD Exorcist sequels get BETTER and BETTER, each new one, huh? 😛 Almost makes me wanna see another one made. ALMOST. 😛

Hey, anyone see THE OZZORCIST? It’s like the DARK SIDE OF OZ, only Black Sabbath juxtopozed with THE EXORCIST.

Please also review the “Who should be the exorcist?” scene. 😛 In it, Karras is temporarily chosen, but then they decide to get someone with experience. 😉 But I do like the apparent ambiguity of the title, nonetheless. 🙂

Please use it. I think it helps the film as much some of the additions to what became TVYNS. As a fan, I demand it — you’ve demonstrated it can be done with justice. 🙂

Rather, I don’t demand, just strongly urge you to consider these words. 😉

Let us know if you dream that you’re finally watching DOMINION. 😉

    Sorry, Bliz. 😛

But seriouly. Let’s see, I’ve once dreamed I was watching Renny Harlin’s (per)version of the prequel, ages before it turned out to be as terrible as we suspected, and the scene where Merrin and Joseph are in an underground part of the church and Merrin’s got the lantern, his shadow is going up the wall… and instead of it being in the shape of a man with a lantern, it’s of his future self, briefcase in hand and hat on head as we walks up to the MacNeil house. And in the torso of the shadow is a certain captain’s gaunt, ghostly, demonic face. I did fan art, way back when:

    null

I know I drew it and all, but what an Exorcist-prequel film that might have made instead of what we got! Of course, if it turned out to be good, Dominion may have never happened. So, I’m glad Renny Harlin got a paycheck, and we later got Schrader’s flawed, but fine film.

Phenomenal read. Get it at any price you can; worth every penny — and thus, much, MUCH more if you get it CHEAP…! 😉

That’s really impressive, Justy. Nice work. Seamlessly edited back in.* And I like it better than TVYNS’s, as well; it employs more from the novel, TVYN’s unofficial purpose from the get-go.

Now if you could put a whole bunch of blood squirting out of her mouth, it’ll be golden. 😛

*But I would change the music to something by Penderecki, something just a jarring but with no so many “parts” to it; the music you have here does the job and is creepy, but every two seconds it changes and distracts me (speaking for myself) from the action at hand. Penderecki, though, of course, is found on the soundtrack CD, as well as at all fine shameless music bootlegging websites known and hush-hush. 😉
