KeymasterThis is generally nothing to worry about and a quick ‘refresh’ should get you connected to the site.
The problem can occur when the external database which runs CaptainHowdy.com doesn’t connect to the main server for all the relevant information. This may be because of a temporary slow connection at your end or a temporary congestion issue at this end. Either way, as stated, a simple ‘refresh’ usually amends the issue.

KeymasterHeres a quick run down
1997 ? warner dvd flip sided release
widescreen stereo on one side, full frame 5.1 sound on the reverse and trailer – although virtually bare bones this is the version seen at cinemas in 73 with the original warner logo opening , dream sequence in colour not de-saturated and karras / pazuzu jump cut before window jump. ORIGINAL SOUND.25th anniversary edition – widescreen 5.1 etc with all the special features documentery etc , but film has been ‘tampered with’ colour is changed from theatrical release see above.5.1 SOUND.
The version you never saw / directors cut – film altered to include lots of new sequences ‘ spider walk etc’.sound altered with new sound effects etc.
The first release is hard to find and was overlooked by most fans and discarded when the new anniversary edition was released, but is in my humble opinion what i saw at the movies that scared me half to death , so i think the best release.
I MAY HAVE MADE SOME OMMISSIONS SO PLEASE FORGIVE ME …

KeymasterWouldn’t it be cool if we could get Eileen to recall in detail the Howdy screen test?

KeymasterYou guys are killing me.

KeymasterThe time frame was even really off in ETB.
Karras’s superiors mention:
“…ten, twelve years ago…”
ETB 1949?— The Exorcist 1970’s?“…nearly lasted a month…”
Whaaat?!?Jason Stringer
KeymasterNot only that, how could Karras and Kinderman been “best friends?”
They only knew each other for about a minute! And when and why did they take that picture of the two of them that Kinderman owned?!?

KeymasterAlso, did you notice that the man at the Thorn’s funeral that says:
“Mr. president, your car is waiting when you’re ready(sic.)” is the same actor from the original?
Jason Stringer
KeymasterYou’re right, the dialogue in the original does seem to lean more towards heresay.
I just wish Harlin would have had tried to follow that kernel of info a little bit more accurately.
‘This is what we heard… now, this is what happened!’ This would have made The Exorcist mythology flow a lot better for me.
And THIS very concept is what got me excited about the film in the first place. Back when I heard it was being made.

Keymastersorry folks i cannot get logged in at all so will have to chat as a guest There have been 3 versions of the film on dvd and by far the most faithful is the original release on region 1 in 1997 and features the original red Warner logo gold couloured dream sequence and original Karras morph.
Although there are few extras it features a full frame version with 5.1 sound and a widescreen version on the flip. Full frame was friedlins preferred framing.
This dvd is very hard to come by now and is the version originall y released in theatres with no colour de-saturation changes and the rough documentery lighting and feel as discussed at the beginning of the thread.
The 25 th anniversary edition is a far more immersive experience but is still missing an awful lot of bits and pieces , more behind the scenes footage exists and could have been included. It is nice to view the extra footage in TVYNS but i feel it is not the movie which scared the pants off me. I do not hate it either as any new version is worth seeing and we are lucky enough to be able to view any new footage at all.
It is subtitled a directors version but i feel it is more of a writers version being far more Blattys vision.
I do not like the captain howdy inserts they are very misguided in mu humble opinion.Jason Stringer
KeymasterHas anyone ever met Linda?
I did!

KeymasterI was bummed out about ETB because the possessed wasn’t really the little boy as mentioned in the original(and played out in Heretic.)
I mean, what’s up with Hollywood’s obsession with twist endings anyway?
I always wished that they’d take the best elements from both films and made one movie from them.

KeymasterFrom most of my readings on possession, Emily Rose is actually a more accurate portrait of real possession than The Exorcist.
I write this as I dodge all of the tomatoes that are being thrown at me!

KeymasterI understand you weren’t saying it was better, Greg. I guess my point is, when reading your original post, it seemed strange to mention Jaws 2 in the same breath as Aliens and T2, that’s all. Because, no matter how loyal J2 was to the original masterpeice, it is leagues behind the kind of film other sequels have been. Yes, even despite being the first to set this standard.

KeymasterI met her back in ’95 at The Darkness haunted house in St. Louis(a very fitting city wouldn’t you say?)I went with my best mate at the time and when we got there the place was empty! We were the only people there. So we thought, awesome, we’ll just ask her out for drinks! I guess we must have just got there too early because other people started to show up after awhile. Damn!
She was very nice and charming but she was all about her animal rescue thing.
I did get to meet her one on one and I thought I’d be all suave when I’d meet her… but it was HER!I went to shake her hand and all I could get out was: “Ms. Blair… it’s the best movie ever made!”
Smiling, she said,”Thanks Matt!”
She did sign our first editions of the Blatty novel. I couldn’t believe it. I was so happy! If anyone wants to know how she looks in person, SHE’S HOT! She’s very tiny though… like that matters!

KeymasterIt’s a great book.
Although it’s a bit over the top and greatly dramatized.Have you ever read Possesion & Exorcism by Traugott K. Oesterreich?
