ParticipantSorry, I didn’t read the rest of your Mountains of madness post… I haven’t read that story yet 😉 I hope to read alot of Lovecraft this summer.

ParticipantThanks very much, granville1.

ParticipantUpdate: I read your post now. 🙂 Sounds good to me. ps. Perhaps Cats of Ulthar doesn’t have a “happy” ending… justice was served, I think.

ParticipantI just skimmed, but I didn’t even notice anything about E3. Squeezing everything they can out the franchise. Blah.

Participantbtw, It’s the last thing I posted, so, top of the page 😉

ParticipantPeriod movies… I never thought of that. I think if we wanted a good Lovecraft movie we’d have to do it ourselves 😉 . I haven’t seen a HPL movie (yet) but I’ve seen the dvd box for Dagon on the internet, and it looks ridicules. Sort of like The Creature from the black lagoon but not as good 😛 . I kinda want to see Reanimator, just because I’m curious. I usually don’t go for scifi… Lovecraft is the exception. Colour out of space was good. Haunter of the dark was spooky too. The white ship was an interesting fantasy. I like The cats of Ulthar; it has a happy ending 😉

Participantbtw, The title is A Home of Our Own (1975) 😉

ParticipantJeez, I feel so guilty seeing how much of the forum I’ve taken up lol. So who wants to talk Lovecraft? I do! I do!
First story I read was The evil clergyman. I didn’t know I was reading a story by THE Lovecraft… I was new at this horror stuff. It was nice but I wasn’t thrilled. Not such a great intro to the main man. Then I read The music of Erich Zann. That was better 😉 . The vault was very good. I remember reading the last line. Shock, thrill and nausea hit me at once. I’ve been his ever since. I have the nasty habit of reading his stuff before bed sometimes. I owe a few nightmares to him! The rats in the walls has traumatized me. Funny thing, I read the title and had a gut feeling it would be one of my favs; it is. I’ve read it once and listened to the story on cd twice. btw, Same gut feeling for Rope. I was right about that too 😉 . The sexism and racism has bothered me. It wasn’t unusual at the time, I guess. Too bad, though. Enough about me, I want to hear about you! 😀

ParticipantSay, Professor granville1 😉 , could you clear up this short story for me? I like it alot, but I’m not sure if I’m missing something… seems to happen to me alot 😛 . Ps. This isn’t a complete plug for my blog… that’s only a bonus 🙂 http://frankensteinsfunhouse.blogspot.com/

ParticipantI agree with M.I.K.E., so it’s 2 to 1 😉

ParticipantThanks greg, I’m flattered 🙂 I liked the birds alot. The sound of the flapping… I can hear it now… lol. I read the story and found it just as creepy (if not more). The main character thinking of survival while the birds are coming at him with no concern for their own safety. It’s a scary thought that something so common could turn on us. I found the end of the movie spooky. Shadow of a doubt was apparently Hitchcock’s fav. Charlie and uncle Charlie being two sides of a coin; good and evil. Well put together, good acting (funny to see the sweet guardian angel Clarence Oddbody talking to his friend about the ways he could kill him!), Theresa Wright was very good and I liked the song 🙂 . Rope was not a typical “good movie”, but I’m quite fond of it. It’s more like a play than a movie. I was surprised at how much they got away with… the relationship between Brandon and Phillip. Considering it was the 40’s. I ghoulishly enjoyed the dark humor. I liked the song in this movie too. Rear window is my fav. Jimmy stewart is great *sigh* 🙂 . Witty dialogue, good plot. Don’t get me wrong, I love Pycho too, but it’s just so hard to choose. I enjoyed Vertigo but I didn’t really follow it the first time. A lttle like my trouble with Legion. I didn’t realize while reading it that it was the Gemini’s brother who was in Karras’ body before he died. Different topic 😛 I didn’t have patients for Topaz. Some kind of spy/conspiracy thing, I think. I only saw it once but I was so detached… I really tried though. Torn curtain held my attention better. Odd having Julie Andrews in a Hitchcock movie.

ParticipantExactly. Regan has a good theory, too.

ParticipantI think what everyone means is that that wasn’t the way he showed himself to her in the beginning. The scary white face was how he really looked. But he didn’t show his true form to her until she was already his. By then she was helpless and was not fully herself. Maybe an example of how I think of it… Like sleep paralysis… She was terrified (take during the medical exam when the face appears and her eyes widen in horror) but not quite able to respond. A healhy (unpossessed) Regan might have had the same reaction of the audience; screaming, running out or whatnot. If she wasn’t already under his “spell” she would have done what is expected of a 12 year old girl seeing a face like that.

ParticipantIt’s the end of the world when Paris is a role model 😛 These girls (Paris, Lindsay, Anna) are getting TONS of attention… what the people looking up to them want. They are taken as examples of “how to get attention”.
