More unseen test footage from THE EXORCIST

The folks at Bloody-Disgusting have released the next two videos of unseen test footage from The Exorcist thanks to their unnamed source.

The two new videos show Linda Blair in jeans and shirt, perched on the bed while rigging is tested around her. The levitation of Regan’s bed reveals special effect artist Marcel Vercoutere‘s slit in the wall where, on the other side, many helping hands lifted the bed using a metal pole.
The earthquake effect that shakes the entire room is shown most. Stand-ins try to keep balance as the room is rocked back and forth. In the completed film both effects occur during the exorcism scenes.

It is still speculated that the man in blue is likely producer and writer William Peter Blatty, but this remains unconfirmed.

After four decades it’s fascinating to see rare footage like this for the first time. The extensive amount of engineering required to make these effects realistic is clearly evident and further goes to demonstrate that The Exorcist really was a ground-breaking horror film.

If you missed the first video, released a few days ago, you can watch it here.

We’re discussing this footage on the Discussion Forum.
