Well, hopefully Hatter will produce a nice refined version of the film, and that way the complaints might subside. Maybe not, but I was happy to see this film when it finally came out.

That’s amazingly funny! Who woulda actually thunk it? 😛

Aren’t there multiple versions of the Heretic on VHS anyway? I remember there was one particular box that had a very pretentious summary on the back of it. I’m not being unhelpful here. I just remember that being one of them.

Jaws fans have a similar predicament where often props are said to be from the original or the second Jaws film since the fanbase generally likes only those two films, but it is very unlikely to get anything new from Ebay these days on the films (especially the first) since most of the fans of the world already own every piece of its history.

In the case of Dominion, there would be a much a greater chance in authenticity. However, the question would be how can one authenticate it?

By the way Mike, I do think that portion of Dominion was left deliberately vague to make it feel creepier as there is no clear explanation. It kind of reminds me of where the cross came from in the original Exorcist FILM and how it got back in Regan’s bedroom. It just adds to a layer of ambigious creepiness.

I think at that point Karras just found Kinderman to be an amusing sport despite what he said. Their conversation had many little insinuated jabs, so at that point (since Kinderman didn’t get what he wanted) Karras just smiles when all was said and done. Sal Mineo was also seen as a juvenile back when he did John Ford’s Cheyenne Autumn in 1964, so maybe that was Kinderman way of saying, “Yeah, run off, kid! You’re no boxer! You’re not standing your ground!” Just my way of looking at it.

These are very great points by the way. I do have to make a point myself that if there was some doubt (in the film at least since a lot of its driving horror is through the observation of something you cannot control or understand) that it was not actual possession– the actual horror of it would fall apart, and as Granville perfectly put it, would fall apart on its conclusions. The great thing about a book is that you can offer many various ideologies and perceptions, but a film has to have a clear focus as to what the director/writer is saying (with hopefully some open ended discussion depending on the subject material) or otherwise the audience could walk away feeling confused or misguided. Nobody likes to be told what to think or feel during a film (or in any other way for that matter), but it is good to create a good balance where one can have a good understanding in what they just saw.

Has anyone planned to put any of these earlier points in an essay about Blatty’s work? Could make a great collage of views.

I just saw the stage play this film is based on at the University of Northern Colorado a couple of weeks ago and it is an EXCELLENT BIT OF WRITING! Its female characters are incredibly strong thanks to its very sharp female writer! The play was directed by a student and despite this fact (which was irrelevant considering it was probably the best student directed play I’ve ever seen!) it’s still a MUST-SEE play!

I simply can’t wait to see what Mr. Friedkin plans to do with this fantastic material! Considering how cinematic of a director he is, I’m sure the additions should be a very nice touch of icing. Don’t let the bed bugs bite (in your dreams)!

I have indeed seen it. It is a very good film. One of the best of 2006 that I have concluded and probably Del Toro’s best film yet. In fact, his earlier film, The Devil’s Backbone, which is another good film is somewhat similar to Dominion. Anyone seen these similarities to comment? 🙂

Why do I detect a certain current of sarcasm from Cap’n’s words? 😀

Wouldn’t it just be easier to just rent it and therefore no problems in legality and in seeing the film?

Clara looks a lot more authentic for that time period and as Schrader I believe says in his commentary– she looked like she was from the 40’s. Izabella looks too much like a Bond girl (she was in Goldeneye) and the makeup her character uses is too modern looking.
