ParticipantKinder … you don’t have any technical flaws that I could see. The film is what is … great work.

ParticipantKinder, I think that is so great of you! You get the best of both worlds (real and film) to express your love for what this world offers. 😉

ParticipantRyan, I had several books “going” at one time before the holidays. I use a “clip” bookmark that leaves an impression on the paper after removing it. Apparently, I failed to bookmark your essay because the “clip impression wasn’t there.
I have now read your essay. Pages 91-92 are on target about the name Damien and its origins from Blattys perspective. You have expertly spelled out some very revealing information about how Blatty draws upon a massive amount of self-created information for brief characters (which is why he rates highly on my Poe list). High praises, Ryan excellent job!

ParticipantThanks, Ben. The additionally information is helpful in making a purchasing decision on my part, especially if Wilson addresses viewer perspectives.
Happy 2009, my friend,

ParticipantBen,
Magus brings up a good reference and book. For the librarian in you:
Oesterreich, T. K. (1921). Possession and Exorcism. NY, NY: Causeway Books.

ParticipantBen,
Thanks for the information on Wilson. I was trying to connect his book’s title, “CRASH GOES THE EXORCIST: WHERE THE EXORCIST FAILED,” with that of Christianity (Wilson) and the film itself.
I take it from your comments that Wilson is only analyzing the “failure” of The Exorcist on a Christian and/or Creationist level … perhaps the tenets of one religion over another (?). [Scratching head.]
Unfortunately, I can’t find a synopsis or review online. Would it be something that you could perhaps share? You have piqued my interest once again, friend.
Many thanks,
Fr. Bowdern

ParticipantBen,
Great collection! I have most of these. One in particular, “CRASH GOES THE EXORCIST: WHERE THE EXORCIST FAILED by Dr. Clifford Wilson (very interesting rebuttal of Blatty’s novel),” sounds inviting. In what way does Wilson’s rebuttal make it an interesting read?
I can’t find much online because it was written in 1974. I did find this, however, about Wilson here.

ParticipantBen, it is long wait for the novella and I hope the Blu-Ray 2009 version of The Exorcist is actually released in 2009! 😉

ParticipantRyan, I agree about the technology. If we can’t stop at HD-DVD or Blu-Ray, the only stage left is 3D! The latest and hottest technology is called “Holographic Versatile Disc” or HVD, which has been in development in Japan over the last ten years. And to think, I was happy when DVDs were remastered and ready to play on my DVD player!
As far as the Blu-Ray Exorcist, I do have one hope for this new release: I would love to see Ellen Burstyn’s opinions to be heard more. I know that The Fear of God had to be cut and that meant Ellen’s part, too. This time around, I hope WB will do real interviewing with one of the greatest actresses of our time. [And, yes, I will harp once more that she was gypped for not winning the Academy Award for her role as Sara Goldfarb in Requiem for a Dream versus Julia Roberts’ portrayal of Erin Brockovich. Hollywood is full of shit on their political viewpoints by picking Roberts over Burstyn.]
Clarification of “Political viewpoints:” Crash versus Brokeback Mountain. Why compare these two movies that were pitted against one another? Look at what happened to The Exorcist!

ParticipantI’ll bite, Ben. Just let us know when. My first five months in 2009 will be spent on forensic anthropology.
