ParticipantJustin, thanks for posting this!
Like everyone, we tell stories differently at different stages of our lives. I am really fascinated more at Blair declaring that she never understood the term “masturbation” until many years after performing the crucifix scene.
I can recall writing some posts on here about this very subject and the fact that Blair was an American inner-city kid. She wasn't naive at the age of 12. In fact, I would venture to say that she was more exposed to adult situations rather than being a overprotected by her mother. However, Blair has always claimed that she never got what she was doing except hitting a crucifix in a box of red-colored Karo syrup while “jerking off” and saying, “Let Jesus fuck you!”

Again, thanks for posting this. I enjoyed it!

ParticipantI'll bet Williams would have produced an even more significant soundtrack … too many movies to name that he has put his stamp on. Berhnard Herrmann would certainly have topped them all but he was just two years away from passing away and I'm afraid Hitch would have hated him working on this film after Psycho even thought Oldfield's melodic Tubular Bells fit the bill as an auditory clue like Herrmann's shower scene masterpiece.

*IF* anyone wanted the truth that Linda didn't voice the demon for the sake of her getting an Oscar, I'd say the studio would be more interested in that, rather than Friedkin.
Having said that, it is quite evident that Friedkin didn't want it known a popular actress voiced Pazuzu. The Exorcist was deliberately cast without A-list actors so the realism could be found in his documentary style. Knowing the demonic voice was Mercedes would have lessened the impact quite a lot for the audience, so I understand him wanting to keep the credit secret. I just wish they could have articulated this to her and avoided the debacle it became.
So true. I can clearly remember in the 1970's when McCambridge went on every talk show to prove her presence in the film. I am old enough to remember the daily turmoil and chaos the film created and it was great fodder for most media outlets at that time.
Anyway, back to Fonda. Whether she was quoted directly (or more likely indirectly to arouse even more publicity), I can never see Barbarella playing Blair's mother!

ParticipantYou know what’s interesting is that throughout Fonda’s career, she has never mentioned this statement publicly. What you are referring to is heresay only because Friedkin quoted Fonda as saying that. I believe it was used as a movie buzz to get even more attention to throw light on the film … and it’s been successful because people still believe it.

<3.
Actually I have already written to Kera (ReganM fan) about this on facebook. 😉
All novel versions are the same except for the 40th anniversary edition. There are differences in the phrasings, some excerpts have been extended, there's the new chilling Karras nightmare, etc.
Some added excerpts from Chapter 1:
“…Chris thought again about the puzzling coldness of Regan's room and into her mind flashed a recollection of working in a film with Edward G. Robinson, the legendary gangster movie star of the 1940s, and wondering why in every scene they did together she was always close to shivering from the cold until she realized that the wily old veteran had been managing to stand in her key light. “
” Chris looked at the spires of Georgetown University before lowering a pensive and moody gaze to the Potomac's deceptively placid surface, which offered no hint of the swift and powerful currents that surged underneath it. Chris shifted her weight a little. In the soft, smoothing light of evening, the river, with its seeming dead calm and stillness, suddenly struck her as something that was planning. And waiting.”
Sheer brilliance as always from Blatty. He could make the telephone book interesting to read.

Again, since when did demons need to follow rules? They are rule breakers supreme. If they weren't, our entire world would be orderly and without chaos, correct?

ParticipantWhen did demons ever follow the rules or even know that they apply to them?

ParticipantYeah, we can add that to the “shit list.”

ParticipantYou're welcome … have you ever noticed the glass IV fluid container that shatters on Regan's bedroom floor? It's obviously there (at least at one point), but it's never connected to Regan's wrist, forearm, or antecubital region. The fluid was certainly never NG feeding fluid despite it being empty when it shatters.

Participant… and The Exorcist II still stands as a piece of shit.
