I can't say — hopefully early in 2014. Without trying to be cryptic about it, this whole process of researching and writing the book continues to lead to new twists and turns. I've been chasing various leads for some time. When you read the book, you'll totally understand, and I assure you I'm as eager for it to be out there as anyone else! The delays have not been due to laziness (though my film career has certainly slowed the pace a bit).

I'm sure we'll see a Blu-Ray release of EIII, but I highly doubt it will include a director's cut (or even a 4K remastering!) for reasons I can't discuss yet. As much as everyone wants to see it, the liklihood is slim in the extreme.

I’ve been inside the gate and seen through the front door.

Regarding the EVP section of LEGION: this was largely autobiographical, and based on Blatty’s own experiments, as has been documented elsewhere. He played these recordings for me, and what one hears is largely dependent on one’s bias.

Blatty’s writings are evangelism in the form of narrative fiction.

They seem very non-plussed, honestly. I had to explain to them that a facade was built onto the house for the film. To them it’s just an awesome house with an incredible view of Key Bridge and the Potomac.

(As an aside, I was crossing the bridge last week, and you get a good view of the house and the University up on the cliff. I noticed that 3600’s attached neighbor has a huge FOR SALE banner up. Anyone looking to buy a house in Georgetown could start there.)

But I think EXORCIST fans would be surprised to learn how little the people of Georgetown seem to regard the “importance” of the location in regards to how enthusiasts perceive it. The house barely gets a glance, and the stairs are merely a means of getting to and from M Street (or an exercise routine for the large population of joggers and athletes).

    Ken:

It’s released on Blu ray next Tuesday, and on DVD November 19th. It even has a quote from this very website on the cover. Check Amazon.com, Best Buy, Barnes & Noble, etc.

Next year. I appreciate the interest.

But if you’re looking for a dark, disturbing film this fall:

Paz: the book is indeed coming — just chatted with the publisher. It’s been an interesting journey that has led to some rather startling discoveries. Sorry if I missed your Facebook message.

I’ve talked to the current owners a few times — very nice people. The gate is actually open more often than one would expect.

That should read “where he stayed during the exorcism.”

I live very close to the house in Cottage City — I just drove past it the other day. The current owners have done a considerable amount of sprucing up. The misidentified location in Mt. Rainier is only a mile or two away, and I went past there as well — a park has been built on the vacant lot where the house once stood.

Ironically, I’m on a business trip in St. Louis, about five miles from the Roanoke house where Hunkeler stayed during the hospital.

Michael Hunkeler lives about ten minutes from my mother-in-law’s house, and Ronald is nearby as well. I’ve never bothered them out of courtesy, despite close proximity to my home.

The whole “Amfortas Scenario” (and his mysterious absence from all screenplays) is an interesting thing, wouldn't you say?

Not yet watched TVYNS/EDC (never been a fan in the slightest), but I was thrilled to watch the film in hi-def on a 1080p television. There's a significant amount of digital noise owing less t the transfer than to the film's age and film stock (though any and all digital color work adds grain to an image unless it was shot on, say, a Red camera); but overall, it's a gorgeous transfer, and easily the most lush the film has ever looked. Diving into special features this evening, starting with Mark's brilliant FEAR OF GOD doc, which simply improves with age, particularly when viewed against what passes for “special features” in this day and age.

I’m tempted to ‘let this section go…’ Or at least, just lock it. Is fan fiction a thing of the past? Like, soooo 2001?

    More like, “soooo 2003.” 😉

The thing that always bugs the hell out of me during the Karras/Kinderman walk n' talk is how absolutely wrong the continuity of geography is. These guys are walking all around campus, but in the wrong order altogether. That shot of the two of them above a field when Kinderman is saying, “That director who was making a film here, Burke Dennings…” shows the two of them walking toward the track they just came from…!
