Right on, Horror2 – bring on the Heretic love!

I’m not sure why Dana Plato was uncredited. I have read before that the actress wasn’t Dana Plato, but either way, it’s been tough to confirm.

    Benjamin,

As you might have guessed from my user name, I am a Heretic fan. I think divorcing it from the Dominion – Exorcist – Legion “continuity” might make it more acceptable to hardcore fans in retrospect, and would allow for “sequels” of sorts based on the loony Teilhardian metaphysics of evil attacking psychic ‘saints’, and a world telepathic convergence.

No matter what though, whether you bill it as part of the Exorcist franchise or not, Heretic will never be “just another horror film.” It’s too original and different for that. Exorcist the Beginning is “just another horror film,” to me.

Personally, I don’t care, and can enjoy the film on its own without worrying about its place in the franchise.

How would this work? Would we use characters of the film/novels, or write original stuff inspired by the film?

EDIT – never mind. I see the answer above

Mia Farrow was a good casting coup for them, as she brings residual creepiness from Rosemary’s Baby. However, she can’t match Billie Whitelaw’s ferocious Mrs. Baylock.

Also agree that the Ave satanis theme needed to be there.

Not great, not horrible. I’ll stick to 1976.

Thanks for this topic. Now I too am curious about the connection between the crucified boy in E3 and Karras’s tape.

I’d love to be involved as well if this happens. Thank you.

Can’t they just cut the final exorcism out and use CGI to give us a different ending????

Hell — Maybe at the end of the movie, Linda Blair and James Earl Jones can show up and synch, and get rid of the Bug invasion!

Let’s hear it for the Good Locusts!!!!!

Rosemary’s Baby is a fantastic thriller and part of what I consider “The Unholy Trinity” of Satan films, along with of course The Exorcist and the original Omen

As we have seen, sequels, prequels and remakes of classic and well-crafted films are usually a bad idea. However, I would love to see a prequel (not a sequel – apparently Look What’s Happened to Rosemary’s Baby is an awful made for TV film). The prequel should deal with the rise and fall of the Castevet/Mercato coven.

I also wonder how Rosemary’s friend Hutch (played by the actor who was Samantha’s dad on Bewitched!) was so aware and sharp regarding the dangers of the witch cult in the Dakota building — imagine a team up between him and Father Merrin!

Granville, you’re right on re: Omen 2006, which just pandered to expectations and brought nothing new (perhaps that dream sequence of disturbing imagery experienced by Julia Stiles, but nothing more).

(Maybe also Mia Farrow, returning to take care of her “Baby!”).

And let’s face it — 3/4ths of the greatness of the original Omen was the anti-christ chorus music. Damien’s “Coincidence Fu” was the precursor to the Final Destination films!

Omen II – could have gotten a lot more mileage out of Teen Damien’s conflicting emotions and struggle to surpress his nature. It needed more Satanism too – how about Lance Henriksen conducting ceremonies and sacrificing virgins?!!!

Omen III – I too liked it a lot. Sam Neill was creepy and terrific as adult Damien. The Lord of the Rings plot device that enabled Damien’s defeat was silly, but that soliloquy Neill delivers while talking to that giant Jesus carving was a very striking scene.

Omen IV – the only thing it has to recommend it is the use of Pentecostal snake handling, which other horror movies should use….we always see how the Catholics handle Satan – let’s get some Protestant exorcism movies! Also, Faye Grant, formerly our lovely and corageous resistance leader in 80’s miniseries V!

    Father Fletcher –

As the only apparent Heretic fan on this board, I heartily recommend seeing it! I’m late for work, but later tonight I will post all my thoughts on this…

Ecchhh — Bob Larson is a fundamentalist knucklehead who wouldn’t know Satan from his ass. I will skip it.

I’d be interested to hear why from both of you.

I liked it, recognizing that it’s an entirely different animal than The Exorcist. Also, it looked like it belonged on some CSI show or Lifetime, instead of the big screen.

I plan on reading The Exorcism of Annelise Michel (the true story this was based upon) in order to see what the missed opportunities were.

Aunt Harriet, that’s definitely on my Amazon wish list, as is Gabriel Amorth’s book. How is it?
