Quite liked this one. It's the most atmospheric werewolf pic since “The Company of Wolves” and highly respectful of it's cinematic roots; from the original “The Wolf Man” to Hammer's “The Curse of the Werewolf” while still managing to cater to the demands for cg thrills. There are a handful of cheap scares to jolt unwarry viewers and some genuinely unsettling transformation moments that manage to surpass the glossy cg ease of “An American Werewolf in Paris” and convey the pain & discomfort of “An American Werewolf In London”s unforgettable transfornation from man into monster. It's not the action-packed rollercoaster ride that was the remake of “The Mummy” or the high profile hit that was “Van Helsing”. “The Wolfman” feels a bit overlong & the blending of period drama, classic werewolf action & cg adventure is sometimes awkward but there is a lot here to love. I'm thinking this is one werewolf pic that is going to be looked back on fondly in the decades to come.

I quite liked it too, enough even to not want to whine about Benicio del Toro and his mumbling.

It's a pretty atmospheric movie with some good moments, one of Holywoods better remakes of recent times. In fact, I may give it another watch tonight 🙂
