This Sounds Pretty neat, and your rite this stuff takes a while to do, I wish you the best of Luck with it.

I do have a question though, are you going to be altering the Demon’s voice?

As I posted on IMDB, I don’t think it is possible to actually have a story/film without having the synchronizer. It takes up half the film.. Good luck though. 😛

Oh yeah. One of the first things I intend to do once I get to that point. I got thinking last nigt though and thought that I might try to keep the sychronizer in but try to make it a little less silly. Might add some footage in from the first movies exorcism for one of the sessions.

I also thought about, during the final scene, when Richard Burton is hugging Linda Blair, and the evil Regan is on the bed, to have Merrin’s voice saying “You must take my place Phillip.” Regan says “You must defeat the demon father.” And when he jumps on the bed, he does not pull out her heart, but is saying things like “The Power of Christ Comples You and I Banish you to the depths of hell!” Making it like an exorcism instead of a wrestling match.

I am planning on cutting out the locusts crap too, except for the Merrin flashbacks. Like in the finale, don’t show the locusts close up, just make it look like a big storm is going through the house.

If anyone has any suggestiosn please let me know.

WOW, this fan cut of yours sound really good, Father Lamont! Sounds like you’ve got a handle of the major issues to deal with in your editing.

Now if you really wanna impress me, give it a connection to any or all of the other films in the series, aside from the 1973 original. I am a shameless sucker for “the prequels”; mind you Renny Harlin’s film is only exists to me if I’m pushing “fast-forward” — I have my standards. 😛

Incidentally, if you’re really, really talented, feel free to use other, NON-‘Exorcist-titled’ films, for plucking footage from to add here. I half-kid here. 😛

It’d be cool if this and the other fan cut in the works (Hatter’s Dominion) could both be made available for free download from a single source and/or copied and shared via mail; with no money paid, of course. In time. Maybe. 🙂

What would you guys like to see in a fan cut?

I do not have access to the prequels right at this time. What other movies might I steal footage from? Any ideas for my re-edit.

I think you previously disclosed intentions of what to diminish and excise is more than enough. The minimum. 😛 But, should you get the prequels or any other films, that would be icing on the cake; not required. 🙂

But as for other film suggestions, maybe films depicting certain cast members. I know, pretty vague. 😛

I feel kind of strange about makeing suggestions on this, Because Im used to just listening to them not giveing them.

but as a Fan, Ive already said something about the Demon’s voice in the movie, it sounds pretty bad a laughable, Maybe get rid of some of the Bad Lines in the Movie, but then there might not be a movie left(just jokeing)
With the African sequence, I would give a subtitle stateing that it is in Ethiopia(a differn’t Location than the prequels, to establish that it’s not the same) I would State the Year placeing somewhere it anywhere from 1957-1963, that way there is enough Time for Stellan Skarsgard to age into Max von Sydow( Tinner, and Deeper voice)
and establish that it is indeed a seperate event than either prequel.
And also to fit things with the scene in the original Exorcist, when it is estimated that this event took place 10-12 years earlier. I wouldn’t pick exactly 10 or 12, but somewhere between 10 an 16.

Now this is not really a suggestion, but something I think would be neet, Open the Movie in Georgetown 1973, with the Scene Between the 2 priests talking about Merrin, and the African Exorcism gets Mentiond then flashback to that Event, and at the end of that flash back forward to 1973 and have a real quick recap of the original movie.

    but thats not really asuggestion.

“Does anyone have any suggestions? What would you like to see be done with Exorcist II?”

    1) One of the things that bothered me the most about EII was the fact that the character of Damian Karras was completly ignored.

    2) Not one note of “Tubular Bells” (theme music from the original Exorcist).

To tell you the truth, I’m on the same page as Greg. I wouldn’t know how to begin to re-edit EII into a good movie.

John Boorman aproached this production with total disdain towards the original movie and the story/premise/themes of EII rather than working as a companion to the original (like most sequels are suppose to do) instead works against the original.

I guess another suggestion I have would be to try to locate as much deleted/lost footage as you can from all 5 Exorcist movies.

    Hi there,

As an editor, I’m not sure where one would begin in wanting to make a better film out of Exorcist II. I would be inclined to say the film’s premise is too terrible to make it good in any other way. Re-editing it does not change its obvious problems inherit in its writing. Now it would be interesting to see it in a different way if it were better, but I’m not sure if its original concept involving syncronizers and such can be avoided. Using footage from other films for lack of story is also a big sign of being too dependent on better films and the weight of them. Despite my skepticism, I wish you luck nonetheless.

Hey guys. I just finished the first half of the re-edit. It looks great so far! So much more tense and in the style of the original. I even added some shots of the demon’s face, in quick cuts, when Blair is sleeping and supposedly having a bad dream. It’s like she’s seeing the face again. I also added some more religous stuff to it, like shots of a cross hanging on Regan’s bedroom wall.

There is a new scene where Father Dyer, from the first movie, is shown gazing at Ft. Karras’s tomstone, then it shows a quick shot when he smashes out the window. This establishes that Damien has not been forgotten, and that he is still a very important character.

I thought about even showing George C. Scott’s character looking at Damien’s picture, this would keep people connected with the character until Legion.

You will love my new ending! It is so surprising and shocking. It’s like the entire movie you think one thing, and then BAM! It also helps to connect with The Exorcist III.

If this movie works, The Exorcist, The Exorcist II, and The Exorcist III will be a TRUE trilogy of films.

Wow. I am very intrigued by all of this. Wonderful ideas there, Father Lamont!

And the idea of this re-edit being so good it unifies the two other classic Exorcist films and either prequel (“There can only be one!” 😛 ), it sounds like quite an undertaking, but if anyone can make it happen, why not a fan? 🙂 Good luck! I look forward to checking this out!

I hate to say it but the entire second Hynosis scene has been taken out. The Merrin footage is just used as flashback sequences at the beginning, like in the original. So the only “synchronizer” scene is the one where they see Merrin in Regan’s room. Father Lamont going to Africa has also been changed a bit. He IS looking for the possessed boy, but this happens about 3 years after Merrin’s death. It picks up with him in Africa right after the Merrin flashbacks are done. After Merrin is shown exorcising the boy, it fades out to show shots of Rome. Lamont is talking to the Cardinal about going to Africa, to try and find the boy who was possessed. When he gets in Africa to do so, he does not find Kokumo. This establishes WHY he lost his faith. His faith in Father Merrin. And his faith in himself.

The next scene is where Lamont is walking up the steps in “South America” to perform the exorcism on the girl. He gets nervous and fails in the attempt. This is because he has no faith.

Cut to Linda Blair, practicing her tap dancing.

Definitely, Hatter. Sounds very interesting, Lamont. It seems you got some really good thoughts in mind. Perhaps some of those really pretentious lines can be left out as well.
