Hi everyone! I am planning a trip to Cabo San Lucas and would like to try sport fishing. I am wondering what kinds of fish can you catch there? I am especially interested in big fish like marlin or tuna. Maybe someone has already been there and can share their experience? Should I take local charters or should I look in advance?
Cabo San Lucas is a fisherman’s paradise. You can catch blue and black marlin, sailfish, yellowfin tuna, mahi-mahi (dorado) and even wahoo. I was there a couple of months ago and booked a fishing trip through Boat Baja. I highly recommend them! They have great captains and a crew that really knows where to catch big fish. We caught two marlin and several tuna in one day. If you are interested, you can check out their website https://www.boatsbaja.com/ – there is all the details. They offer both deep sea and coastal fishing, so you will find something that suits you.
We were also in Cabo San Lucas last year, but we chose coastal fishing – it is a great option for beginners. We caught mahi-mahi and wahoo, we really liked it! But we had no luck with marlin, although we saw others catch them. Mikhail is right, local charters are the best option. It is also important to remember that luck can depend on the season. Alexey, if you go, tell us how it went!
