i agree…or adleast Sharon telling Chris that. I also wish the scenes when Sharon comes into the room and later Chris (during the excorcism) where Regan verbally attacks them. I also have a soft spot for the part where Karras is laying Merrins hands on his chest after trying to revive him, and Regan spits bile on Merrin’s face and says “The last rights”

Yeah, I think the scene would have been more powerful if it had had her say, “Now put his c–k in his hands. The last rites” just after her nasty little giggle.

Everything from the book I wish was in the movie…
I’ll just copy/paste what I posted in a similar thread:

Blatty’s intention to keep it a mystery as to whether Regan was genuinely possessed or whether it was a case of mental illness,

The gradual onset of Regan’s “illness”, starting with the missing of her dress, books, shoes, complaining of noises, displacement of furniture and Chris thinking it was her daughter doing it all to get attention,

The subplot on a witchcraft book that Regan read prior to her acting out occult rituals,

The extensive discussions about medicine and psychiatry which were kept to a minimum in the movie. The list goes on and on… 🙂

The above post is why (though it may be blasphemy to say this) I wish that HBO or Showtime would produce a 4 or 6 hour mini-series based more closely on the book. HBO in particular would probably put together a top notch production. Hell, get Freidkin to direct it…he aint busy

I must agree with you in the fact that there should be a mini series as you mentioned. There are to many good things in the book things that are not in the film and the only way to bring them to life is a mini series as you mentioned.
I can say that what i would love to have seen in the movie that is the book it would be the converstation that Karras has with Regan as he is trying to to put a case together if she is really possed.

I would have loved the scene where Karras and Merrin were talking on the steps during their break in the exorcism. It added more depth, I think, and it was just a great moment in the book.

Wasn’t this scene in “The version you’ve never seen”? If may have been shorter the the one in the book, but I do think it was there, in some form.

I always thought the part in the book creepy, where Chris Mcneil passes Reagan room, and sees her sitting on the floor facing a chair with her head tilted, as if someone was talking to her.

    Friends,

This question makes me wonder; how would have the proposed EXORCIST television series worked out? As in, what would happen each and every week?

I wish that it would have included the talks between karras and the demon, “yes, that chill you feel is me”, that kind of thing, so it was more like, I’m just keeping it cool for now, but If I wanted I could screw with you and anyone else…I would have liked to have seen more interaction with Chris and the demon, it was as if chris was unaffected by having a demon in the house…did she sleep? did she dream? of course this would make a 5 hour movie…but I think they could have cut somethings down and made it darker for those in the house…how the demon spoke of sharron’s lust for the priest…

Though we only hear Sharon’s version of it in the book, I do wish the scene had been in the film: when Father Merrin is first in the room with Regan, and the demon says, “This time, you’re going to lose”.

I wish the scene, when Pazuzu imitate Burke Dennings.
