ParticipantI read a previous posting that included a comment by lunuso which brings about some interesting twists between Christianity and psychology from The Exorcist point of view. Lunuso brought an awareness to us readers of “The Three Faces of Eve,” a true case authored by psychiatrists Corbett H. Thigpen and Hervey M. Cleckley, (1957).” This has been of great interest to me as well when I read it in the 70’s. Also, others may be interested in the biography, “I’m Eve,” by the “real Eve,” Chris Costner Sizemore. In her book, she details that she had many more personalities than just three and named them based on “their” preferences (Jung really created the MBTI and the mother and daughter team, Myers-Briggs, did the published research on personality types that ultimately became validated for use). It’s interesting to note that Thigpen made a medical notation that when one of the personalities came forward, that the “individual” would break out in a bright red itching rash on her legs due to the fact that the other “individual” was wearing nylon stockings. Personality one: no allergy; personality two: allergy!!!
Interesting: Same body. Same DNA. Same enzymes and polypeptides. Yet, we hear these strange physical manifestations happening in the possession of Ronald Henckler and declare it a “possession.” In the Eve case, we declare it a Multiple Personality Disorder.
Other MPD’s with either books and/or movies include Sybil Dorsett [pseudonym], “Sybil” (16 personalities); Truddi Chase, “When Rabbit Howls” (over 80 personalities); and Robert Oxnam, “A Fractured Mind: My Life with Multiple Personality Disorder (11 personalities).
So, should we ask ourselves what naming has to do with ideas in our world? Christianity versus Psychology. Evolution versus Creation. Or, can both coincide with even distribution? Psychoanalysts like Cornelia Wilbur “cured” Sybil Dorsett. Father Bowdern and his team “cured” Ronald Henckler. One “cure” took several years (Sybil); one cure took several weeks (Henckler).
Thoughts?

ParticipantI know of no biological explanation of how two different personalities within a single entity could have different allergies. On the other hand, stress hormone changes etc. can affect the immune system thus the severity of one’s allergic reactions. I will have to conclude that the stress hormones were what was involved here. Don’t forget that the most common cause of unexplained rashes is known to be stress!

ParticipantHere’s an interesting link I found immediately after one search (one of many that I found on MPD’s). This isn’t an uncommon aspect of the psychological taking over the physiological:
“Even more noteworthy are the biological changes that take place in a multiple’s body when they switch personalities. Frequently a medical condition possessed by one personality will mysteriously vanish when another personality takes over.
“Dr. Bennet Braun of the International Society for the Study of Multiple Personality, in Chicago, has documented a case in which all of a patient’s subpersonalities were allergic to orange juice, except one. If the man drank orange juice when one of his allergic personalities was in control, he would break out in a terrible rash. But if he switched to his nonallergic personality, the rash would instantly start to fade and he could drink orange juice freely.
“Allergies are not the only thing multiples can switch on and off. If there was any doubt as to the control of the unconscious mind has over drug effects, it is banished by the pharmacological wizardry of the multiple. By changing personalities, a multiple who is drunk can instantly become sober. Different personalities also respond differently to different drugs.
“Braun records a case in which 5 milligrams of diazepam, a tranquilizer, sedated one personality, while 100 milligrams had little or no effect on another.”
I’ve known this for many, many years and it only adds to the blog post about extraordinary strength. Enjoy!

What’s more interesting is that Chris Costner Sizemore, even after she had been “cured,” had many more bouts of others “personalities” taking over her body and she declared that those who knew her and examined her would note that one would have a rash, one would be prone to severe hiccups, one could get easily get drunk on a half glass of wine, while another could drink you under the table.
I still find it amazing how humans across the globe call something one thing while others call it another.
Sweet mystery of life …
